I came to Corpus Christi in August 2009 to find an apartment as I intended to go to school in the Fall 2009 and after viewing 8 complexes ,choose a unit at Normandy Village based on location, cost and size of the apartment . I still think it is a nice apartment , but this review is more an ALERT to prospective tenants in the outside possibility they might have to change their plans. The office staff is very nice and pleasant but I was a little taken by the demand that the Application fee($35) and Security Deposit($250.) be Cash only. I have been told this has been a technique used by some management companies to make a paper trail difficult to follow and often is a red Flag. I proceeded with the payments anyway and during the Signing process the assistant manager , had me initial two areas on the back of the contract informing me.'if you are Approved and Change your Mind, you lose all your Deposits"I did scan the first Box and read exactly what she was telling me, but I did not read the second box in the same detail.. which I should have . That essentially said,, 'Even if you are not yet approved ,if you change your mind you lose the Deposit". So in reality the Security Deposit is not only a Deposit against potential damage to the unit , but liquid"damages"once it is securely in the managements possession. This is what happened. I discovered I could finish my courses in another city sooner, and I notified the Management less than 72 hrs from my Signing , before any approval of application had begun as it required Financial statements not yet provided and 30 days prior to my scheduled move in date. They were very empathetic, but informed me that I would lose all monies submitted based on the lease application. I still think this is One of the best Apartment Complexes in the City, and the Folks in the office very nice and were only following the Property Management policies,, Just be certain this is the place you will be renting.. otherwise you could Lose $285.
