Started off great, ended badly

I moved into the Veranda in August of 2007, with ----------and ------working as apartment managers. Any issues were addressed very quickly and there were no problems. No construction either. ------replaced ----------(who left for personal reasons) in February 2008 and fired ------(not sure why). ------was replaced by three different women before I moved out at the end of June, all of whom did not stay very long.

Once ------arrived, construction began almost immediately. I have over fifteen separate notices for week-long construction that was done between February and the end of June. The construction led to a horrible parking situation because there were not enough spaces to residents.

Because of the construction, the gates did not work all the time or were left open, which led to a decrease in the low security. My truck was broken into and personal belongings were stolen including a radio/sound system and fishing poles. There were at least three other break-ins that I know of and a motorcycle was stolen from in front of someone's apartment.

For the presidential primary in March, I had signs up in my windows from December through February. Shortly after ------arrived, I was given a notice to take down the signs supporting my chosen [Republican] candidate or I would be fined. Nowhere in the lease does it say that political (or non-political) signs are forbidden. Other political signs supporting Democratic candidates were allowed to stay up. After confronting Patsy, she just stated that my signs needed to be taken down or she would remove them herself and give me a fine of $50.

I gave notice 30 days prior to the end of my lease that I would be moving out at the end of the month and gave my forwarding address. The day I turned my keys in, no one would do a walk-through with me. On July 29, I received a notice from ------saying I owed $1300 for damage and it had already been sent to Sky Recovery Services, a collection agency out of Houston, Texas that specializes in apartment collections. ------would not help me nor discuss the charges because the "debt had already been sold."

Beware of moving to the Veranda, at least while ------is in charge.

Complaints about my particular apartment: Horrible insulation. Electric bill for a 700 square foot apartment was $300. Walls are very thin, can hear everything the neighbor said. Drawers/cabinets were falling apart. Landscapers never mowed patio grass, even though it was requested multiple times. Air conditioner leaked/stopped working and it took maintenance 2 days to fix both issues.

That's funny....I saw all the trash coming from your apartment. I know you should have been charged for that because I got a letter for that a long time ago. I had to take my sign down too. They explained to me that it was not uniform and all their windows had to look the same. Which is understandable. Besides everytime I walked to the laundry room it smelled like dog poop so no wonder why you had to pay 1300 for damages. I wonder what the inside looked like. I've lived here for 3 years and have not had a problem. Oh and ------quit! She didn't get fired. ------and ---------have been nice everytime I go in the office. ------------------are super fast whenever I needed something. So you probably deserved everything you got.

Not personal, I just think you shouldn't bash Veranda when you were obviously in fault. It's not ------------fault that you didn't follow directions.

Well I'm glad that you are much happier without us because we are much happier living anywhere but the Veranda. There were no restrictions on what was allowed to be put out for trash pickup so when I moved out, I did leave a lot of trash out, including a broken particle board nightstand, but it was done Monday morning so I'm not sure why exactly you're complaining specifically about that. On Monday mornings and often Sunday nights there was trash all over the grounds waiting for pickup. As for the patio, our dogs didn't go to the bathroom out there because what little room we had was taken up by a barbecue pit and kayaks. I find it amusing that you are arguing with me, trying to let the world know how "I deserved everything I got" when it came to the Veranda. Are you going to do the same to the others who posted negative reviews or is this personal?
