All of these people are saying such awful awful things about this apartment complex! We lived there for 4 years and were extremely satisfied with our apartment and experience. Management was ALWAYS friendly (through all the various management changes...)but we always paid our rent on time and kept our porch tidy, so they wouldn't have really had any issues with us.
I don't understand all the complaints that they're ghetto apartments. You get what you pay for! These are the cheapest apartments in the surrounding area. You do not get luxury for these prices. You get a roof over your head. And if the price appeals to you because it's cheap, it will appeal to the lower class as well.
We lived on the second floor - which in ANY area is going to be safer than the first floor. In the time that we were there, our rent went from 729 to 879, which was a bit steep, but we won the Christmas porch decorating contest every year we were there so that knocked a bit off the rent :)
Parking:
The parking here is perfectly fine if you live in an outer edge apartment, but we did notice while we were there that those who live in the middle of the complex have to hike a bit (but isn't this true anywhere there are inner units'!') The only parking compliant we ever had was pretty unique to our apartment, so it would not be an issue at any other unit in the complex. Our stairs hit the ground pretty much right on top of a parking spot. We walked all through the complex and realized we were the only unit with that particular issue. The other 2nd floor stairs bottom in 'No Parking' spaces. When we got the spot, we parked far enough back to go up and down the stairs comfortably, but if someone else nabbed it before we could, we were pretty much barred from our own stairs, which sucked carrying groceries up and down the stairs. (The day we moved out, some idiot parked on our bottom stair WHILE WE WERE CARRYING FURNITURE OUT - my husband wanted to send a couch flying down the stairs. If you still live there, dude, you don't know how close you came to losing your front windshield...)
Noise:
The apartments are fairly sound proof. We lived right next to the playground too and when my windows were closed, we didn't hear anything from outside. Noise was never a problem, except that our next-door neighbors set up thier surround sound speakers up against the mutual wall - which was the wall we had our bed on... This is not the apartment's fault and other than that awful base thumping when the speakers were on, we did not hear our next door nieghbors at all - and they were very LOUD with lots of loud children. The family across the way had like 7 kids that liked to scream outdoors as well, and we never heard them inside our house.
Grounds:
The maintnece folks kept the apartment complex really tidy. They cleaned up dog mess from the stupid people that let thier dogs go wherever and the garbage that ignorant poeple feel they have the right to leave wherever they want. So during the week, the place was really nice looking. I felt sorry for the maintenence guys coming back monday morning because there was a group of children who were not taught not to throw thier garbage on the ground and trashed the common area every single weekend. The maintenence men came every Monday and tackled chip bags, juice boxes, watermelon rinds, water bottles, and much more garbage all over the playground from these particular kids. They also had to put BACK into the dumpster all of the things that these kids dragged out and strewn about.
Safety:
I do NOT understand why all of these people are complaining about safety!! Its the CHEAPEST apartment complex in the area!! You are not going to get alarm systems and peace of mind! We went for walks at night and felt perfectly safe. We saw people (*gasp* groups of thugs''') and they smiled and nodded and we smiled and nodded. I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe in any way. I am the world's most paranoid person when it comes to safety and caution, and I felt quite secure in this place. Granted, I wouldn't let my children play out after dark, but who does execpt for the people you wouldn't want your kids playing with'!'!
Construction:
Again, you get what you pay for. Our apartment was perfectly fine. It was not new, it was not old. It was not top of line and it was not bottom of the barrel. It was an apartment, and I never had any issues with anything. When my air conditioner broke, it was replaced IMMEDIATELY (we were without a/c for like 4 hours, tops) and the maintence men were ALWAYS prompt, helpful, respectful, and always asked if there was anything else they could do while they were there.
Maintenance
As stated above, the maintenence men were absolutely wonderful. Not only were they prompt, efficient, and just plain friendly, they would ask if we needed anything while they were out and about working in the complex. The maintence in this complex is TOP NOTCH. I never had any concerns about anything like that while I was there. I knew that any issue I had would be handled quickly and professionaly.
Staff:
I never had any issues with the staff. Village In the Woods went through 3 sets of management while we were there and all three groups were professional, friendly and very helpful anytime we needed anything. The fact that they kept choosing us for 1st place in the porch decorating contest probably helped - and showed that they have great taste - ha ha - but they were always very friendly and always willing to help with anything.
For all the people who complain about the staff: PAY RENT ON TIME AND KEEP PORCH TIDY! No more issues with the staff. :)
Overall:
I can't say enough wonderful things about this apartment complex! Our experience was extremely positive and I do not regret spending 4 years of my life there.
That being said, I would NOT recommend this apartment complex to ANYONE solely because of the bugs. For how great and perfect and wonderful the whole experience was, the reason we left was because we could not take the roach problem anymore. We had them come out to spray faithfully. The staff was very sympethetic and always sent the exterminator promptly, but it did no good. We had an extrememly clean apartment and fought the bug problem vigilantly. We had them out to spray so often, I will probably invite the bug guy to my kid's graduation. Nothing ever worked and the sheer volume of cockroaches would turn your stomach. They say if you see them during the day, its a problem. Well we saw tons of them during the day. No one was allowed in the kitchen after dark because of how horrifying it was and after extermination, the carnage to clean up was an all day thing. And none of it did any good.
Its so unfortunate that the bug problem was so bad, because I would have stayed there another 10 years if not for the bugs.
I was told by other residents that the bug problem was NOT all over, just in some units, but the ones that were infested were pretty well infested without hope of recovery. Proceed with caution!

So, I don't get it.....you spoke pretty highly of this complex, yet when it came to the part of "recommended" you stated "NO" and no means you would not rent from this place.......very confusing and conflicting.....
