living here will often remind you of that Elvis Presley song, "In the Ghettoooo.. in the ghettooooo" the apt. bldg and the apt's themselves are nice looking. wood floors, nice fixtures, new appliances, the neighbors in the complex are nice, the bldgs. are small, only about twelve units in each. A very communal nature. BUT.. you better be good at dodging bullets. EVERY single night we heard gunshots. Police helicopters flying overhead were a common occurence. Homeless people would pick through the trash that people would dump in front of the bldg and spread it all over the place, making the whole block look like a landfill. The noise from the stupid piped in music will keep you from ever taking a daytime nap, especially if your bedroom wall is the mounting location for one of the speakers. It's right on the other side of your bed. you can't go to sleep unless big band music or 80's new wave puts you to sleep. it didn't put me to sleep. just infuriated me, especially when it wasn't turned off until anywhere between 10 pm and 4 am.

The parking was only good because we paid an extra $25 a month for a covered spot, and there were only a few times when someone parked in my spot. A friendly note kept them away next time. The prices I listed include electricity, which they charged a flat rate of $110 a month (even though at most we probably only used 70 dollars worth in a month) the deposit included an astounding $800 pet deposit, which I got NONE of in return for cleaning the hell out of the place when I moved. They said we had too many stains on the carpet in the bedroom (the only place w/carpet) and all of those stains were there when we moved in. the stains were UNDERneath our bed, we obviously weren't responsible for them, and we marked them on our move in checklist, but after the nearly $1,000 we gave them in deposits, they said we OWED them another $23 after moving out. They got nothing more from us, except many irate phone calls. The mgmt was fine when we moved in and maintenance was usually quick, although we sweated through the entire summer w/little to no a/c. They said it was because we lived on the second floor. Funny, I never had that problem anywhere else. It was literally an average of 95 degrees in there every day from late April until sometime in late October. We NEVER once used our heater, even in the dead of winter. it was still hot in there even in the winter. We kept the windows open constantly. People knew the code to get in, my two bicycles were stolen, the cables cut. this was in the middle of the day. I heard someone say they saw the landscaping crew leaving with several bikes in the back of their truck. the place we got was nowhere near worth the rent we paid. Power Properties tries to portray themselves as young, hip, and urban, but they don't care about their residents at all. the gate was constantly broken, I had to call the cops several times to come check out suspicious people walking around the place, and we had unsupervised kids from the halfway house next door always running in behind someone and throwing things at your windows. It was nothing more than a ghetto. One block to the west was Swiss Ave, with their beautiful mansions, and one block to the east was Gaston w/crack houses, prostitutes, murderers and thieves. I wouldn't recommend living here unless you like to deal w/jerks and gunshots every night. If you see this place, be not fooled by the pretty palm trees and vines and hip looking building, keep on driving.
