It's Not the Ritz, but that is not what you are paying for!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I have lived here for three years and not had any major problems that I would not expect to have at an older apartment complex with the cheapest rent in this area. I have had only minor problems which have been fixed very promptly (within a couple of hours). I have never seen any rats and only a couple roaches in 3 years, but we are in Texas! I am a single girl and have felt very safe in the complex. There is a wide variety of people here (students, families and maybe a few sketchy people), but everyone seems nice. The office staff has always been very accomodating to me, even when I have been late with rent, but maybe that is because I am nice to them, not demanding and I don't freak out about a small problem. They did not raise my rent once until I chose to move to a larger apartment in another part of the complex. They were very accomodating at that time too, letting me break my lease in the smaller apartment to move. I got back ALL of my deposit by doing some light cleaning. I don't know what these people are talking about when they say that management is horrible and that they are getting charged outrageous fees. Maybe they should treat the office personnel with more respect and they might get some back.
The only bad thing that I would say is that some of the apartments are nicer than others so if you are looking around, make sure and ask them for what you want and make sure you will be leased the specific apartment that you looked at or else you may get stuck with something crappy. HOwever, a lot of the apartments have been redone and have nicer flooring and cabinets that others, so do not be afraid to ask them for something different because they have a ton of different floor plans.
All in all, I like living here and don't understand where all of the complaints are coming from. If you are a student looking for a decent cheap place to live, this is the place. I feel safe and don't have any problems with maintenance or the office. I also lived around two other students and even an attorney that chose to stay here for multiple years. If you are not horribly picky and you are on a budget, this is a great place, especially for a student. If you are snooty and expect absolute perfection, don't move here. Don't expect to be treated like you are at the Ritz, because you are paying the cheapest amount of rent in this area.
