good and bad points

I've lived here for 2 years and am moving out in a month and I can't wait.

Now there are some good points to this place, it's safe and well located. The grounds are better maintained and general problems around the complex are being taken care of. The maitenence staff is very nice and polite and one (and ONLY one - I think her name is Melissa) of the office girls is really nice in general. The pool is almost always clean and for the most part it's really quiet (I'm probably the loudest person with the most guests in my area).

Now the bad stories. My oven's heating element broke right when the property changed management. I took this up with the new management and they told me for almost 8 months not to use the oven and that as soon as the replacement part came in (it was apparently on back order) they would fix it. Now call me crazy, but I think 8 months is excessive. I finally went down there and said enough was enough and threatened to not pay rent and sue them if it wasn't fixed within the week. A new stove/oven unit was installed 2 days later.

Another bad story. My toilet will randomly overflow and the only way to stop it is to turn the water off for a while. The maintenance staff has found no reason for this as they find nothing when the snake the pipes. The first time it happened while I was out running at 7am in the summer. I came back to a flooded bathroom and soaking wet carpet throughout part of the unit. I called the emergency maintenance number and they came right out, wet-vac'ed it and fixed the problem to the best of their abilities. I did have to call off out of work that day to wash and dry all the towels and blankets used in the clean up however. And my apartment smelled like moldy water for weeks after. This has happened a few other times but since I now know to turn off the water line to the toilet I've only had 2 other flooding disasters. This past time I had to call the office and they guy said they would replace my toilet since they can't figure out what's causing it. It's been a month and while I can see the toilet just sitting there in the office, it has yet to be installed.

Another issue, I tried to be a good and honest tenant and pay my pet deposit, however they don't have it on file as a pet deposit. However while this doesn't seem like a problem, whenever I ask them to come spray for bugs which are a major problem whenever an apartment on either side is vacant for more than a week, they leave me notes saying that they can't spray because of my cat and that I'm in violation of the pet policy. I've gone down to the office many times to explain and they always say they will take care of it, but so far...

And still, my garbage disposal needs to be replaced as in the past 2 weeks I've had to have them "tinker" with it 3 times.

And here's the biggest problem I've had that made me say, F*** IT! I'm leaving! On July 2nd my shower head literally cracked in half (not the bottom part falling off the main part because it needed to be screwed back on but literally cracked at the base of the part that screws onto the water pipe out of the wall) while I was midshower at 9pm. At 9:05 am the next day, July 3rd, I take the entire broken piece to the main office and talk to the property manager. She tells me that because of the holiday it's going to be a "few days" before they can get me a new shower head. I asked if I could just get the money for an identical replacement one off my rent if I went to Target and bought it myself provided I showed a receipt. Her advice, just take a bath for a few days. While this is TMI, it was that time of the month and I'm greatly opposed to baths after age 5 anyways. Needless to say I was very upset and caused a huge scene. When I first moved in and went to take a shower after a long day of moving the ball in the shower head fell out. I called the then manager, Rene, and told him at 4:45. It was fixed by 5:20. I didn't see why it would take a few days for them to fix something this simple. An hour later the guy knocked on my door and I took the replacement part from him and said, I know you're busy, so I can screw it on myself.

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally think that the manager, and assistant manager are so incredibly rude and unhelpful. I understand a lot of things go wrong in older places and I'm prepared for them. I can even do a lot of things myself. But the main issues I have are the 8 months to fix/replace a major appliance, and the lack of renter service. I use to wonder why apartments around mine would be empty for months when I moved here. Now I completely understand.
