Nice Apts. - Questionable Office Staff
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/25/2003
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
I have lived here nearly half a year now. I really love the inside of my apartment. I got a great special, and this is a fabulous location/neighborhood. However, the management of this apartment community is a disgrace and does not do justice to the upscale appearance of this community.
First off, I have no idea who the people are that now work in the office. We received notices at our doors at New Years that the owner had hired a different management team to take over. Every time I have been in the office (and I try hard to make that a rare occasion), I have seen different people working in the office from the time before. They are never the same people when I go in there. Since the switch, we are no longer receiving monthly newsletters at our door. The newsletters we used to get clearly stated who the staff were. Right now, I get the distinct impression that the staffing situation is a revolving door.
The manager when I moved in here was horribly rude and did not appear to know what she was doing. I had a question that she did not know the answer to. She called someone, supposedly at the main office, to find out the answer. I could clearly overhear her discussing what the answer was with the person on the phone, and she was arguing because she did not like it. She came out and told me we were doing things her way, despite the fact that I had overheard her being told to do something else in that particular situation. I don?t think she?s the manager anymore, yet I have no idea who is.
Furthermore, the staff (both old and new) have always appeared very disorganized and not very adept at multi-tasking. There are always several employees in the office at the same time, yet every single one of them seems swamped like they have a million things needing their attention at once. I must say this is quite a contrast from all the apartments where I have lived previously, where the offices have been quiet and orderly with calm employees.
And when you do go to the office, it seems like they do their best to deal with you as quickly as possible and then send you on your way out the door. It?s like they don?t want you coming in there. Ever since I have lived here, and even after the supposed management change, I have sensed a huge gulf between the office and the residents. Sort of like an us versus them situation. Not like let?s work together to make this a great place to live.
The maintenance personnel themselves are actually very caring and adept when they know there is something that needs fixing. However in my experience, it is very difficult for the office staff to actually let the maintenance team know about maintenance requests. I put in a few maintenance requests at move-in and subsequently after that were not tended to until I happened to run across one of the maintenance men and let him know. Requests get taken care of right away when maintenance actually knows about them. The communication from the office staff to them is where the weak link occurs. I think the office staff is losing work orders or failing to fill them out in the first place.
The apartments in the community that face Marsh Lane get a lot of road noise from the traffic, particularly at rush hour. One would think that when constructing a new community of luxury apartments, the builder would have had the foresight to soundproof these particular units a lot better. Previously, I lived in an apartment community right on the tollway that was properly soundproofed. Inside those, you never would have known that you were right on the tollway unless you went outside your apartment.
As for the parking situation, I myself have been pretty lucky with that. But I often see people parking in front of my building that live 2 or 3 buildings away and have to walk because there is not adequate parking near their buildings.
One of my major complaints about this community compared to others where I have lived, is the complete and total lack of any resident activites. There are NONE, aside from some kind of Thanksgiving potluck they had (which I couldn?t attend since I, like most of the rest of the world, was spending Thanksgiving with my family). That is a paltry effort compared to the casino nights, wine tastings, etc. that I experienced at other complexes of this supposed caliber. This is a huge apartment complex and I have had very little opportunity to mingle with any of my neighbors. But then I guess it would be asking too much for this particular office staff to put together an event that would actually be worth attending. And they probably will never try anyway since it seems like they don't want the residents hanging out in the office.
I also want to add that my water bill here is by far the highest out of all 4 apartment complexes that I have lived in in this same general neighborhood. There is no excuse for a single person to have a $30 water bill, especially when my water bills at the previous complexes were always in the $7 - $11 range. I have already paid more for water on this lease than I did for my entire previous lease, and I'm not even halfway through it yet.
I could go on all night, but I think I?ll stop now since this is long enough as it is. But please think twice about the management before living here.
