I am a SMU graduate student completely new to the Dallas area. Having read the descriptions of some other Dallas apartments, I was terrified by the reviews speaking of gunshots, muggings, etc. I will now present an unbiased review of the Bend:
1. The location is awesome. I am only a couple of miles away from school, there are nice grocery stores, my bank, and movie rental places, etc. all within walking distance.
2. I feel very safe here. After reading reviews of surrounding properties, I was sure that my car would be broken into every month, that I would be mugged, and that I would not feel safe outside of my apartment. Don't let the reviews fool you. I have not noticed any problems as far as safety is concerned. I see the security patrol driving around everyday. There are a lot of young business professionals/upper level college students. I have yet to see a "scary" looking individual at the complex.
3. The apartments are pretty nice. I have a 665 sq. foot apartment that provides tons of space. I have more storage space than I know what to do with. The apartments are definitely older. When I moved in, I had no air conditioning; had to spend the night in a motel my first night in Dallas! However, they had my air conditioning running when I got back the next morning. Also, my air conditioner leaked in my bath room. Again, it was fixed the next day. I have had bad luck with maintenance problems occurring on the weekends. I'm sure had they occurred on a weekday, it would have been fixed that day. There are a lot of amenities for the price, and it is a perfect sized apartment for a single guy.
4. I always have a parking space close to my building.
5. The larger community, The Village, seems like a great place. Very nice landscaping, a country club, tons of activities for residents.

So, I would recommend this apartment complex. I am new to the Dallas area, but I toured approx. 15 apartments, and this was by far the best in my price range. Good luck with your apartment search!
