Not the best, not the worst

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
I have lived at Bent Oaks for a few months now and have found that there is both high points and low points to the community. The office staff does a great job and is always available should a need arise. They were terrific from the point I first walked in the door and continue to do so. I would highly recommend Ashley to anyone looking for a new apartment.
The management makes significant efforts towards resident activities, though the funtcions do seem to be out of the office rather than off-site liked they used to be.
When we first moved in the apartment waas spotless. The office staff had even gone to the trouble of providing us some common household products (detergent, dryer sheets, TP, etc.). Unexpected but very thoughful and appreciated.
However, the availability of cable in the apartments is an issue. There is only one funtioning outlet in the living room, and that is it for the entire apartment. Comcast will not install another outlet without permission from the complex. This issue is further complicated by the cost that would be involved. Satelite dishes are an attractive alternative, but can be difficult to get a signal.
The appliances in the apartments are old. My oven is off by at least 50 degrees, possibly more. The burners are lop-sided.
The pet feces around the apartment are an issue. Most residents are curtious enough to clean up after their pet or walk them off property, but it seems others are not. In particular, it appears that the owners of smaller dogs feel they are above such acts. This issue has never been addressed with the management, but I am sure that they are aware of it. Trash is another issue. There is only one dumpster for the complex. Common with most communities. However, trash pick up is only twice a week so the garbage tends to pile up. If residents are too lazy to take their own trash, then that is their problem. But can the community at least make an effort to control the pile up of bags around the front doors' This place isn't the Hilton but at least show some pride and keep up the apearence of the property.
All in all, this proeprty is not that bad. The issues they have can, for the most part, be corrected with a little more attention to detail. You do make some trade offs when selecting this property over another more expensive one. The units are huge and there is a lot of space for the money. Parking is never an issue unless you insist on a covered space. That costs extra. The staff is great and approachable. If you want a diamond in the rough, then this place might be for you....
