First of all, let me say the management staff is very nice and very professional.. We never had any issues with them what-so-ever, and have always provided great service.
Let me also make it clear, I follow all the rules, pay my rent long before it's due (you can pay online!) and have never posted any complaints to them aside from having to call maintenance to fix the heater.. it would not turn on, then it wouldn't shut off.. The problem was easily fixed with a $20 digital thermostat that will be moving with me.
When I moved in, I found the apartment very dirty, everything in the kitchen was sticky, and there was dirt all over the floor where the staff had taken out the washer/dryer unit. None of blinds closed correctly and they were all covered in a greasy substance along with the outside windows.. Also the bathroom was dirty, lit like an Indiana rest stop, (miserable yellow light and noisy fan), and the toilet seat had burn marks all over and had a disgusting brown stain. It was quickly replaced along with a new bulb, discarding the lens on the bathroom light, solving the problem (walmart is just up the street). After moving in, my girlfriend and I did a fair amount of scrubbing and disinfecting and the apartment was suitable for a single male.
The apartment itself is very old, and must have been quite nice at some point, but has fallen into disrepair. The kitchen cabinets seem to be made of old pallets, particle board, and wood patterned stickers. There is not a "right angle" any where in the apartment, and none of the doors close properly, I would imagine the foundation has sunk over time; the floor also gives in many places when you walk on it. Still the rent was very reasonable considering the location, and the age of the buildings can be overlooked when considering the rent.
The real problem with this place are the people who live here, (and the reason we are moving out.) I live in a building with all 1b/1b apartments and each one seems to be inhabited by at least 4 people, while the 2 bedrooms may have more then one family living in them. The apartment above us has at least two adults and three children living it.. (keep in mind this is a 1bed 1 bath). Just a few units down, the families living there resolved an argument by a male repeatedly swinging a bat at a young female's head while they argued and screamed outside in the parking lot, thankfully the Dallas police showed up in a reasonable amount of time. You will see cars broken into on a regular basis, which is surprising considering the quality of the cars owned by the residents would easily be eclipsed in quality by the starting line up of a demolition derby. Finally I would not recommend leaving your apartment alone after dark. My girlfriend has been harassed multiple times walking from her car getting home from work at 5 in the afternoon, and refuses to leave my apartment unescorted at night. Also don't expect to walk up any stairways without having to trip on someone "hanging out" on the steps.
I would whole heatedly recommend this apartment complex if you want to be extra in the show "Cops"; its only a matter of time before an incident here makes the show. Again the management is wonderful considering what they have to manage, but I would not recommend Camden Springs to anyone who doesn't want to live on "the wild side."
