Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
I moved into Camden in January 2006. My building is very close to the Canton Street Lofts, and my apartment faces into the pool area/courtyard. For being in downtown Dallas I've been very surprised how quiet the complex (or my apartment anyway) is. In the evenings or afternoons (when there haven't been people at the pool) I will open my windows and the only noise I can hear is the fountains on the pool. That's a different story for the inside of my apartment I can usually hear my upstairs neighbors walking around, when they are doing laundry, when they are showering or using the dishwasher. Sometimes when the water is coming down the pipes from above, it almost sounds like a water fall in my kitchen. If I stay in on the weekends I can hear all the people walking through the corridors with their shoes clacking on the cement. Or if I'm at my computer room (near the front door) I can hear people walk by, and if they are having a conversation I can hear every word. A lot of these noises are expected for an apartment, though, and it's usually not that bad. Has it annoyed me' Yes it has on occasion, but again, I think some of it is normal for apartment living.
I've had some frustrations with the Leasing Office. Everyone in the office has been very friendly, but it's like pulling teeth to get anything done. When I first put my application in for the apartment I had to keep calling the office to find out if I was approved, and to find out when I would receive my welcome letter. I never received anything that I needed. I finally talked to an agent that was able to fax my welcome letter to me so I was able to get all my utilities, mail, etc switched over. Come to find out (about two weeks after I moved in) the leasing agent had given me the wrong address for my apartment. That was a nightmare trying to straighten out and it took a good month before I started to receive my mail. I was disappointed in my apartment when I moved in. I could tell the walls had been painted, but there wasn't much cleaning that had been done. My bathroom had a layer of lint on it from the dryer, the bathtub was grimy, the counters were dirty, and the carpet was (and is) filthy, the light in the kitchen was partially hanging down, among a few other things. I put this all down on the checklist when I moved in, and the office did send a maintenance guy out, but all he did was fix the patio door lock that I reported as broken. I also had to call the leasing office to remind them to put my name in the directory, so that the few times the security gate is working, I can let my friends in.
I moved to the complex because I love Deep Ellum and I love living in downtown. So I love the area. I've walked to Deep Ellum during the arts festival and it only took a few minutes. I doubt that I would ever walk at night, but I wouldn't walk at night in most places. I do see people walking/jogging/walking their dogs around the complex, though.
Overall, my apartment is nice. I love the floor plan, I love the view of the pool, and I love all the windows. Some of the fixtures and design seem poorly put together, and as I mentioned my apartment wasn't cleaned that well when I first moved in. Would I recommend this complex' I would.
I hope this information is helpful.
