My husband and I leased their biggest one bedroom apartment for a year & a half. It was 1100 sq ft, had two really big walk in closets & a partitioned study off of the large master bedroom.

Likes:
Space
Hardwood floors
Price--Rent ranged from $1000 - $1020 while I lived there
Amenities--Nice workout facility and GREAT party room with a very nice view of the downtown skyline
Pool area was nice.
Parking was convenient

Dislikes:
Homeless would frequent the common areas and sleep on the benches at night. I (being a 25 yr. old female) was never accosted, or event asked for money--but they were there most of the time.
Noise level since we lived below a 2 story townhome.

I've always recommended Camden to those who were looking in the downtown area, however, I never recommended that someone live on the first floor due to safety concerns. I CAN say that our cars were never broken into--and we would frequently park one car on the street.

In light of the woman being shot on the 3rd floor, I would definitely be concerned for my safety, however I have to think that specific incident could have happened to a different apartment complex in a different part of the city just as easily. I choose to believe that it wasn't a "deep ellum" thing.

I guess you weren't there when I was last year---and a man crawled through a window and raped a young woman there at Camden Farmer's Market at gunpoint. What bothered me the most were the drunks congregating outside near the leasing office on the weekends making noise.
