This is not the ghetto people make it out to be. True, there are bums, and it has been going down hill lately, but for the price it's good living.
Pros- I am a college student. I work part time in retail. It is nice that I am still able to afford a great loft near where I work.
The pools are always really clean, and there are always events. Right now they're having a 4th of July party on the top of our parking garage, and last week they had a huge pool party. The residents are predominately young professionals who like to work and relax.
Also, this is a dog friendly complex. All of my neighbors I've met by seeing them with their dogs. Most of them I don't even have a name for, but I do know the names of their dogs. There are plenty of bag dispensers and trash cans for poopies, and a lady comes by to clean up after people who don't clean up after themselves.
Parking is only a problem when you get home late, but even then it is very easy for you to find a spot close to an elevator so you can run into it and get to a more populated area.
Cons-
There IS a lot of crime. This is downtown. That is why I don't understand why people live here with their children. I have been the victim of one crime in my two years of living here, but I have learned from it and haven't been victimized since. You can avoid crime in this area simply by exercising some common sense. Don't leave things in your car, lock your doors, and if you see something that you don't like call the police.
Maintenance- I've only had to call them a few times, and they are speedy and efficient when it comes to individual problems. However, bigger problems like broken elevators and gates are not as quickly fixed. I have actually threatened to call their corporate offices, which finally got them to fix the elevators. The pedestrian gates were broken for weeks, and I had to let several people in (after they showed me their access key, of course). One gentleman was stranded outside for hours with a large T.V. before I came out to let him in. I still don't think its completely fixed, either.
Rent Increase- Our rent went up like 20 dollars, but after you tack on the monthly utility bills (which aren't too bad) it went up around 50. Not too bad, but not great either.
All in all a good place to live if you aren't a complete idiot. Use your head, and you will be fine.

What type of crime? Was it assault? Or something like theft from your car?
