My boyfriend and I moved in at the end of March and we really like it thus far. I read the reviews before we moved and it got me so worried and paranoid that I would be raped, mugged, shot, etc. It's nothing NEAR as bad as most of the reviews state.
Yes, the area can be unsafe. You're downtown - not living in a quaint, suburban neighborhood. If you're considering moving downtown, you should know this in the first place...
Yes, there are plenty of homeless people roaming around in the late night/early morning hours. They're mostly harmless, but you still need to be cautious.
These things are to be expected. Don't roam around at night, by yourself - especially if you're female. When I get home late and have to walk in from the garage or street, I carry pepper spray with me and keep my head up, looking out. Just have some common sense and you'll be fine. Also, I see cops patrolling pretty frequently. It's not "The Ghetto," people.
I've had to call the office about spills in the hallway and dogs barking excessively, but that's about it. I had to have maintenance come out and fix the dishwasher and check the cable - which they did on the same day I sent the request in. My only complaint is that when I came home one day, two maintenance men were in the kitchen, checking out a messed up cabinet and they had left the front door WIDE OPEN. This is someone's home, people! Furthermore, we have two pets and what if they had gotten out' Some people just don't give a ----. I called the office and reported it and asked if maintenance could come only when someone is home. Hopefully that will take care of it.
The office staff has been very nice and friendly - especially our leasing agent, Tony. I've had to pick up several packages in the office and have had no problems there.
Overall, I'm very satisfied. Name another complex in the downtown area where you can get over 1,000 square feet for under $1,000 a month (cable, trash and pet fee included). It simply won't happen.

I understand that you have only lived in the complex a few months. My first few months living there weren't bad either. Just beware... During my 9 month stay at Camden my patio furniture and bike (even though bike was chained up... lock was cut) were stolen of my 2nd story balcony, my boyfriend and a friend of his had their motorcycles both stolen within a 2 week period, and my car was broken into. By the way there was nothing to steel out of the car except around 10 burnt CDs. This all happened just to me, not to mention other numerous accounts of crime done to other people living there. Including my best friend who had her car broken into twice while living there. I couldn't handle living in a place where I was always wondering who would have a crime committed against them next. With the economy in the dumps crime is known to rise. I don't see how this place could possibly be considered safe right now.

I don't understand why you would move here if you knew all the things that go on here? Something with your review doens't add up. I also hate to break it to you, but this complex is in deep ellum, not downtown. There is a big difference between downtown and this area. As for pricing, there are plenty of places with better amenties near SMU (roomy duplexes and apartment complexes) that are closer to places to eat and grocery stores that require less driving (camden is close to practically nothing except a few struggling bars in deep ellum). Check apartmentguide, or craigslists. Also a lot of places near lower greenville with duplexes and apartments. There's much better bang for your buck out there that doesn't include this complex.

Are you the new Camden office worker with fake posting duty for the week?

I'm getting well over 1000 sq.ft. for well under $1000 and I don't even need to worry about constantly carrying pepper spray. I also have a great view and private parking. That was my biggest thing about living at Camden - constantly having to watch my back. I don't like not feeling safe in my own home. I don't need mine anymore, so feel free to borrow it ;)
