Good for price, but moving out!

I moved into the apartments in May and signed a 15-month term. It will be up in August, and I plan on moving out.

First, the cons:

1. The gates. The entrance gate has not been working for about 3 months now. It was previously fixed but then some jackass rammed into it to get into the apartments and they've been broken since. Previous to this the entrance gate was also broken for periods of time. You will usually find a line of 2 or 3 cars in the evenings waiting for the gate to be opened when it is working properly. The exit gate was not working for several months as well, but they just recently got it replaced with a new one. Does not do much good because the entrance gate is still broken.

2. Parking. Parking is horrible. I mean, if you work long shifts like I do and come home around 10 or so, prepare to park far away. If you're lucky you might find a spot in the tiny spots that were obviously designed for micro-cars on the side of the main right building. I usually am forced to park in either those, when I can find a spot, or a guest spot, again, when there's one available. If not, I'll drive around for a few minutes trying to locate somewhere to park. Horrible. There is no option of covered or reserved parking.

3. Noise. The walls and ceiling are very thin, and this is a big problem for me and my wife as I live downstairs. Above me are two angry black people. The man beats his wife, and the wife does stupid things to further infuriate him, like throw objects all around their apartment. On the rare occassion that they do have a peacefull evening, or what most likely happens is that they fight until they tire themselves out, me and my wife are treated to their squeaky bed, with them on top going through their motions and both of them grunting and groaning. Ugh. I haven't called the cops on them because I do not want my new car vandalized. The woman also weighs about 300lbs, but it honestly sounds like she hops around her apartment when she walks, or as if she's dropping bowling balls with each step. You can hear every car passing by at night, and those thugs that have been popping up recently won't shut up because they can't imagine anyone trying to sleep at 2 in the morning. Or don't care.

3. Safety. The neighborhood is going downhill. A few weeks ago a friend was assaulted at gunpoint, they took his car radio, wallet, everything but the car itself ('). Granted it wasn't in the complex, but the gates are never closed to keep that riff raff out anyway, and it was pretty close by. There have been a couple of broken windows in my year here. Thankfully not mine or my wife's, but some guests of mine had theirs broken. Nothing stolen, just broken to hear the tinkling of shattered glass I guess. My wife constantly gets hit on by seemingly workless bums that live here. She's scared one day they might try something when I'm not home.

4. Extras. They have a contract with their own cable company, so you can't get Comcast. It's Grande Communications. They suck. They don't have cable internet, but offer DSL (IT'S A FREAKIN' CABLE COMPANY!). I tried getting sattelite but couldn't because an apartment building blocks my view of the southern sky.

5. Crazy little kids. If you ever visit, remember to DRIVE SLOWLY because there are apparently many little kids running around with no concern that you are driving a 2,000lb piece of roaring metal. Where the hell are these stupid kids' parents' I sure wouldn't let my children run around in the middle of the street like that.

6. After-hours message center. If you call after hours you get transferred to their message center, where a lady takes down any work orders you need taken care of. A more effective system for them would be to simply have a voice machine installed in their offices. I've called with 4 work orders in the past, check up with the office 2 days later, and it's as if they never received it. The message center is worthless! They did, however, get to working on the issues right away after I called the apartment offices themselves during working hours.

7. Bathrooms. The bathrooms do not have an exhaust fan installed in them, so if you take hot showers or have smelly toilet sessions, be prepared for the steam/smell to linger or creep out into your hallway. The showerhead is curiously low. I mean, low. My wife is 5'1" and it's perfect for her. I'm 6'0" and I have to bend down to get the top of my head wet. Sucks, but I've gotten used to it. The tub itself is also pretty danged tiny. Suitable for one person, but we both can't be lying down on opposite ends to enjoy a nice relaxing bath. :(

8. Gym. I was told there was no gym when I signed up, but I can see the room whenever I go to my apartment :( It's been "under construction" or something since I moved in here, and I don't see any progress. They told me, thought, so I can't blame them for it. Honest people.

9. Misc. The blinds in my bedroom are too large for my window. The window is set in a depression in the wall and the blinds scratch the sides and will not fully go down unless I pull them out of the hole. My patio glass door does not lock properly unless I mess with it for many minutes each time.

10. Traffic. Located in the north-west corner of the 635/75 eternal traffic jam, it is a pain to get here and to go somewhere. Great view of the huge skyscraper-like highway they're building right above us, though!

That's about it for the downsides, now, the good sides.

1. Price. I am paying $450 a month for 690 sq. ft. More than enough when I was single, but now I want a larger apartment. My last two months will be at $525.

2. Towing. The towtruck WILL tow you if you are parked w/o a permit, as I've found out myself, two times now. It's a good thing, I guess.

3. Friendly management! These guys are very nice, and most, if not all, live on site. The black guy is my favorite. Since I moved in I have not felt lied to once. Trust is a major factor when deciding where to live, and if it wasn't for a few of the above negatives, I would definately choose to stay here!

4. Good maintenance crew! When I DO put in an order directly with the management and not with the cruddy third-party messaging center, I usually get the problems resolved quickly. When I first moved in my air conditioner broke down, I told the office and within the hour it was back up and running again! They've replaced my broken toilet seat, fixed my slanted door, unclogged my pipes, and patched up my ceiling when my upstairs neighbor's pipes broke. All pretty quickly!

5. Pretty entrace. The entrance is covered with large, tall, beautiful trees. Very nice :)

I recommend these apartments if you are single and a little tough, but not if you are recently married or have a sensitive family member.

Townhome, here I come!
