Some Good, Some Bad

Yes, the new management is different. There are good and bad things.
The Bad:
- rate increases
- takes longer to get things fixed (unless an emergency like a utility problem)
- no doggie bags for weeks at a time
- staff that easily gets defensive and unhelpful
- no carpet cleaning or upgrades on renewal
The Good:
- no more lake in the parking lot when it rains
- fewer puddles & mud on the sidewalks
- damaged tree limbs have been removed
- nicer, safer landscaping
Not Their Fault:
- utility costs. There has been a huge increase in electric this year, and we're not using any more than we did last year - and the insulation hasn't gotten any less! So I think it's the rate hikes on the utilities.
Still Good:
- walls are pretty thick - we still don't hear our neighbors
- really nice, spacious floor plans
- nice neighbors
Not as bad as it seems at first:
- The staff. If you are very nice, and careful not to push, they can really be very nice and helpful in return. They don't always have the resources to do what you'd like, but they still try with what they have.
...
SO, overall, we really like it here, and plan on renewing our lease.

Odd post here -- posted on 1/10/05, same day the manager responds to another post, and yet May 2005 was still four months away? hmmmm..... strange indeed! We love living here! From: -Anonymous- Date posted: 1/10/2005 Years at this apartment: 2004-2004 I can't say enough good about living here. We moved here in May 2005, and it is just great. |

Well written. I completely disagree with one item, and that is the last one about the staff. Interesting that you say 'careful not to push'; she has obviously bullied you into forgetting you are a paying customer. It is her job to run this place -- and that includes taking care of problems both big and small when they arise, and maintaining a professional demeanor while dealing with a wide variety of people. Having empathy for what she has to do on a daily basis (used to be in the business myself), we have been nothing but nice to the manager. As long as we don't ask for anything, of course she is nice. The minute we have a complaint, however, she becomes defensive and stops communicating. She needs customer service training, to learn how to think of the tenants as customers, and to deal with problems without using a tone of voice, facial expression, and body language that all say "I really wish you would just go away." We are not here to make her happy; she has a job to do, and she needs to do it professionally.

I agree with Anonymous Dated 2/27/08. Management and maintenance both need CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING. They have forgotten that we are the Customers and this is our HOME. We are treated like the enemy until lease renewal time, then we are shown "Love" (Ha) again for a few days... So we get a few days of "love" each year and many days of "UGLY".. You have to laugh about the sad lack of the ability of the management until you can afford to move again. Just remember " you
reap what you sow"....

It's about a year later from my original post, and I don't think I would change anything about it. They just painted, that's nice. They seem to be trying. We don't go as long without doggie bags any more. I totally agree with the other posters that management SHOULD be more responsive and less defensive. Certainly in a perfect world. But since they're not, you really can get good results if you are persistent while being consistently nice to them. Not as fast as you'd like, but it does get done.
