Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
The good:
-Spacious floor plans with decent upgrades (not state-of-the-art, but very attractive and comfortable).
- Location is fantastic.
Right in the middle of the McKinney Ave Uptown scene, but on a quieter side street. Some units even face a wooded greenspace.
- Mgmt quick to respond to maintenance issues. On move-in day, I noticed that the carpet was slightly worn and stained. They immediately replaced it all the following day.
- I always feel safe here (in part because it's such a populated, walking neighborhood). A few misc car breakins, but you get that everywhere.
- The Parking lot is a bit tricky, and seems to go on forever (it takes about 5 minutes to drive from top to bottom), but in exchange you have fairly secure, assigned parking. There is also a generous amount of guest parking at the top level.
- Resident population is mixed in age. There are lots of younger people sharing apartments, but also lots of young and not-so-young professionals. Ocasional parties, but it's not a rowdy college frat house environment.
The bad:
- Very Overpriced. This place is no longer high-end luxury ... it's older and they've let things slide. You can do much better for the money
- A crucial elevator is constantlly out of order. Hallway carpets are disgustingly stained and shabby (they plan to replace them this month, but they waited 2 years too long!), etc.
- Noise: Units are generally well-insulated, but make sure you do not live below a hard-wood floored unit. They are not properly insulated and can be unbearably noisy. We had an issue with a neighbor getting a new dog that barked frantically and neurotically for hours on end. Every time the owners were out, the dog basically screamed until they returned. Mgmt didn't deal well with it and it's still an issue. (That's always tough to deal with, though)
In summary: If you really want to live in the neighborhood, and don't care about spending a few hundred dollars more than you should, it can be a good place to live.
