Was kinda worried about this place. I mean, I read all the reviews... Now, six months into my lease, I'm quite happy with the place. Here's how I see it:
It's quite dated inside. But, this place was inexpensive, I have my own garage and I live across the street from West Village. That was the trade out. Plus, with my current lifestyle, I don't eat at home anyway, so I don't care about old kitchen appliances.
Will say that I HATE the TV set up. They have a cable company you have to use. I hate them. But, I somehow manage to survive.
The office crew is nice. Maintenance is fast. Haven't had any problems. Hadn't heard about break-ins since I got here, but this is Uptown, so it's to be expected. The place is pre-wired with alarms. If you feel unsafe, pay to get it monitored. Simple.
I think in the end, you just have to get over yourself and realize that you live in an apartment. Doesn't matter how much it costs, it's still just an apartment. And a community is only as good as its residents. There will be jerks that leave garbage everywhere, that trash the pool or that don't clean up after their dog. Be an adult. Talk to your neighbors about noise, keep good communication with the office about problems, and don't expect miracles (ie, the gates can't keep your car from being broken into... so don't leave your cool stuff in it for all the world to see).
I like the place. It's (comparatively) cheap. It's close to all the stuff I like. And my car is parked in my own garage.
