ive been here for a year and a half. after one saturday morning seeing a bum trying to break into someone's downstairs apartment (never live on the 1st floor!!!) this happened to me last weekend:
I came home at about 3:30 and started trying to open my door. I start realizing that my door wont open, and it this point its starting to become noisy so a neighbor comes out and tries to help me. at this point she calls the "security guards" (if you can call them that) and eventually they show up. at this point its about 3:45. So they show up, the girl goes back in her apartment and the guards try to open the door. eventually they figure out that they cant open it, and basically tell me "sorry, we cant do anything for you." at first i thought they were kidding, and reminded them that I am a girl in deep ellum, locked out of my apartment and they cant just leave me in the cold at 4 in the morning. They came up with the brilliant response of, "sleep in your car" which i replied "i don't have a car." At that point they walked away from me, ignoring me practically crying. so then i sit on the ground trying to collect myself and figure out what to do, when a stranger comes down the hallway, sees me crying, asks me whats wrong and proceeds to knock down the door for me. we figured out later that the doorknob broke, and when you turned it the latch wouldn't go in the door. So now my door frame is split in half and the door barely locks.

after i called them and yelled for about an hour, i demanded the security guard's information, to which they replied "we dont have that ingormation". what'!'!' you mean to tell me the people who are supposed to be protecting us are complete strangers''' i am getting out of my lease if i have to move out of the country, im not staying in this --------.

I had a horrible experience as well! This situation doesn't surprise me at all!

If you would've called the 24/7 ON CALL maintenance (which there are 4 on staff) they could've come out, and drill your lock and stet you up with a new one at any time of the night. Stop being so helpless.
