Not great in the Summer

I lived at the Marquis on Gaston for one year and although the apartment was nice and the rent was great for the location, there was a major problem which was a deal breaker; the air conditioner.
The apartment was a 2 bedroom, just under 1100 sq feet on the thrid floor. The unit was one of the "tower" units which means the living room had a really high ceiling (around 25 feet tall!) Come summer time the air conditioner ran 24/7 and the temperature would NEVER get below 78 degrees. The maintenance staff checked the A/C 5 times in about a month period each time saying nothing was wrong. Management agreed to hire a third party to inspect the A/C and the 'independent' third party concluded the A/C was working "as it was designed to work." They also told me there was nothing wrong with running the A/C 24/7. I told the assistant manager that the obvious problem was that the unit was not big enough to cool the space and that they should install a larger one. She did not directly agree with me, but stated if they did that they would loose their jobs for not controlling costs... Furthermore my electric bill for August of 2006 was $400.
OK, so I understand living on the top floor and having high ceilings will raise the cost of cooling the place, but I do NOT think it is unreasonable to expect the apartment to get any cooler than 78 degrees. I prefer the temperature to be around 71-72 degrees and 78 degrees was unbearable to me.
Overall I would say stay away from the top floor and especially the "tower" units if you want to be comfortable in the summer; if energy efficiency is important to you, move on. gkZ41df9CgXQPfm8K2A7
