Good and Bad

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I have lived here for almost two years. I currently rent a one bedroom 930 square foot apt. for $735. The price plus location is great. However, the apartments are old. They were built in the 70's and have not been renovated like The Gates (which were also built in the 70's); however, that is what keeps the rent low. Contrary to my expectations, the crime has been non-existent. I have no apartment noise from my neighbors, but I think this may be the result of some luck. The Hill is constructed such that one bedroom apartments are surrounded by one bedrooms, two bedrooms near two bedrooms, etc. The one bedroom apartments attract mostly thrifty, older couples. The lack of multiple bedrooms keeps the students out of my part of the Hill. So an apartment elsewhere in the apartment complex may have more noise.
Parking is tight and hard to come by after midnight. People's dogs crap everywhere. The appliances are old and often don't work well (e.g. the dishwasher is very inadequate). Finally, the office staff is horrible. Like the first poster, I was promised one price and had it increased when I showed up in town. Unlike the other poster, I was from out of town, starting a new job, and could not take the time to find a new place. Plus the increased rent was still low. It still demonstrates how "shady" the management can be. I have other management horror stories, but I think the bait and switch provides the right flavor.
All in all, I stay for the low rent. The apartment complex is not horrible, at best, it is serviceable.
