Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I lived at the Hilton Head Apartments at 11440 McCree Rd. Dallas, TX for over a year, and in that time numerous problems occurred. In 2007 there was a fire in my complex that began in the unit directly across the hall. I was awoken to firemen at my apartment, because my alarm never went off. On that day the firemen came into my home, tracking mud all over my carpet, thus ruining it. The peephole in the front door was also ruined due to heat and smoke, and I was unable to look out. Instead of repairing the fire damage the complex merely put a fresh coat of paint over the problem. Therefore I lived in an apartment with filthy stained carpet that smelled like smoke for over SIX MONTHS. The hallway still smells of smoke and soot when it rains.

In additition to the fire problems there were other issues never resolved:

1. When I moved into the apartment there was no screen door for the patio. Although I requested one on numerous occasions I was never supplied one.
2. In the short amount of time I lived at the Hilton Head location I was given a new clothes washer and dishwasher; because the ones originally there broke quickly after moving in. I was never given a new dryer even though I complained about it not working and towards the end of my time there, was so noisy and jumpy it was almost unable to be used.
3. The ceiling in the dining room had a leak, and while I believe the roof was fixed above it, the water-stains and possible mold, was never repaired.
4. I complained and reported a neighbor for stealing my cable, and the management told me it was not their problem.
5. I purchased a key-card for the workout facility that worked only a handful of times. When I presented this problem I was treated like I was crazy or an idiot who didn t know how to use a key-card, despite several of the maintenance workers being there to try the key with me and they could not even get it to work.
6. There was a short in the light-switch next to the door that I reported. After the fire occurred I was worried about this. Even though I reported the problem and voiced my concerns, it was never fixed.
7. More toubling was the fact that there was a roach problem. After reporting this over and over again, and even bombing the place for roaches myself, the management finally told me that I was just going to have to live with it since they would have to treat all the surrounding units as well and that was something they couldn t do. Which meant I was forced to live in squalor because the apartment management would not take care of the problem.

All of these incidents, plus ones the management company could not have solved, (ie. drug deals in the parking lot, a pizza delivery man was mugged at the complex so the company would no longer deliver, people not adereing to the swimming pool hours, vandalized vehicles, and a lack of parking) forced me to move to a safer and more accomidating property.
