This is the worst living experience I've ever encountered. No one should live there. They should tear down the entire complex and just put in that retail space. The list of problems I had between August of 2003 and July of 2004 goes on forever. Gates and trash were the least of my concerns.
My air conditioning unit caused my apartment to violently vibrate. It made it nearly impossible to sleep during the summer because my bedroom windows rattled so badly. I actually had to end up sleeping in my living room the second summer I was there because those windows didn't vibrate as much. I told the complex about the vibration at the beginning of the lease and the advice I got was, "Get some headphones and listen to music when you go to bed." Thanks, management.
A second problem I had was a leak in my ceiling that started in November and was never repaired through the end of my lease. They tried several times, but after large rains, I'd have a huge leak in my ceiling. Chunks of the sheetrock would fall from the ceiling. After the first attempt, the complex would only respond once I sent certified letters pursuant to the lease language. It got so bad that the woman below me had to request repairs to her ceiling because it was going through my carpet. I hope nothing happened to her after I left.
A third problem I had was that my hot water went out. They would come out to fix it, it would work for about three showers, and then it was out again. I'd have to start the process all over again (with a certified letter, no less--$4 a pop). Only when I went into the office and threatened to actually terminate the lease and sue for damages did they replace the hot water heater. At that point, they finally replaced the water heater.
I haven't even discussed the mass quantity of roaches, the broken microwave (circa 1975) that they never replaced even though they said they would, the horrible electric service that they use that overbilled me by $250 one month, the way the phone service has to be set up, etc. It was the single worst living experience of my life and it should have a 0% occupancy rate. Their rental rates are cheap because no one would pay more than that.
I guess it's true--you get what you pay for.
