My year at Manor House

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
First the good:
I moved into Manor House after getting a job downtown and finding that they had REALLY good deals on 1BR apartments. I was a little unsure about life downtown, after seeing all the homeless people and the constant stream of club-goers, but I quickly got over that after my tour.
My leasing agent, Amber (who is also the manager) was very courteous and answered all my questions during the tour. Unlike some of the other places downtown, she made me feel welcome and seemed genuinely interested in helping me find the right apartment.
When I moved in the next month, I couldn't have been happier. I found new favorite places withing WALKING distance of my apartment, became spoiled with being able to walk to the grocery store, library and clubs downtown and met lots of downtown residents in a very short time.
My apartment was perfectly clean when I moved in: no musty carpet or dust an inch thick after being promised a clean space (like I'm sure we've all experienced in apartments before). The apartment was trendy: polished concrete floors, large glass doors that went onto the balcony (in the livingroom and in the bedroom). The kitchen was awesome: modern fixtures, granite countertops.
The concierge (with the exception of one) was also courteous and helpful all throughout my stay. They were always there to give a recommendation of restaurants and goings-on in the downtown area. Jean and Jean especially -- loved them! They were always awesome!
One thing to remember when you're looking for an apartment downtown is the noise factor: Manor House did not have a problem with this. When the patio doors were closed, the apartment was silent. I never was disturbed by noise outside except the occasional siren (which were surprisingly few and far between downtown). Other places I looked at were not as well built and were much, much louder.
Manor House is also a tight-knit community. I never had any problems with my neighbors. If anything, they were always sociable and friendly.
The not so good:
The garage is a little cumbersome at times. It can be a little inconvenient if you're in a HURRY and need your car immediately. But this is not a problem if you just plan ahead. Go down 10 minutes early in the morning and they'll get your car as quickly as possible.
If you need assistance, talk to the other Steve or to the girl that works in the evenings (I can't remember her name!). They're always willing to help out any way they can.
Lastly, the laundry room has limited space, so you need to plan ahead there as well. Try to do your laundry on any evening but Sunday and Monday and you'll be fine.
SUMMARY:
I'd recommend Manor House to my friends. I enjoyed my stay and would return in the future if I had another job downtown. There are lots of choices downtown, so that's saying a lot!
