Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I have lived here for over three years, so I have a pretty decent perspective on this complex, which in my opinion has been on the decline, particularly with the most recent management change. Given all the advantages afforded to management companies with the advent of the equal housing laws, most apartments are run like a small corporation (or Army unit), and this place is certainly no exception. Management is generally unwilling to work with residents and shows ZERO flexibility if your problem doesn't fit a certain mold. To be fair, in a lot of cases, the office people just don't have the authority to help because they have to follow the letter of the law (in this case, the CWS Apartment people), but I've had two experiences in the past year that warranted some extra attention, even if it was just a phone call to the regional director, but none of the office people were willing to go the extra mile. Make no mistake, you will be treated as a number by these people, nothing more. Maybe there are people beating down the door to get into this complex, in which case I don't guess you can blame them for tossing your problems aside as routinely as they do, but when you pay these types of rents, I just don't like being treated that way.
The best way I can describe it is this: as long as your problems are relatively minor (light bulbs replaced, drain clogged, etc.), they will fix it without much hassle, but the first time you have something that the maintenance man can't fix on the spot (air conditioning problems, leaks, etc.) it will be a real fight to get things done. Even worse, once you've had to be the bad guy and really push to get something done, it's like you're blacklisted with these people. I had a pretty major air conditioning problem last year, and since that time, I've never felt welcome around anyone in the office, and when I've called with issues since then, no matter how minor, it's been a real struggle.
As for the crime in the area, I'm not aware of many of the problems that have been mentioned, but I also travel quite a bit for work and am not here to get the news from other residents. As such, I have to disagree with Pollo's comment about not putting out flyers because each and every resident needs and deserves to be informed about what's going on. At the last place I lived, the management people ALWAYS put out flyers when incidents occurred, no matter how small, but at this place, I only see announcements when there are positive things to report (even with the pool issues we've had, the only announcement I've seen was when things were finally coming to an end and it was set to be reopened).
Good things... it's a pretty well kept place on the outside, and they are pretty good about activities, especially in the summer if that's important to you. The pool scene is above average, and as for location, it's great access to major highways, although traffic is obviously an issue during rush hour. Close to a jogging path, as well. One thing I will point out about location, though... you won't just run up the street to the grocery or to grab a sandwich, so it's not the most functional location in the metroplex (just drive around the area and you'll quickly realize this). Also, about the garages... yes, they are generally not as convenient as you might imagine, but it's a nice benefit to be able to park on the level on which you live, especially when moving in/out.
That said, I am happy to be moving out, and I would not recommend given the trend I've seen over the past 18-24 months. It's unfortunate, because I used to actually like this place a lot, but the new CWS people are miserable for the most part. Unless you absolutely have to be in this area, you can do much better in uptown, addison, or in the park cities area (for roughly the same price).
Oh, and I would ignore whatever post Pollo makes as a rebuttal, as he obviously works here or is dating one of the girls in the office. Just read the other replies he's made to the reviews and you'll realize this.
