What a waste of space and time.

Years at this apartment: 2003-01-01 - 2004-01-01
I lived here for 9 months and was counting down the days til move-out by the end. It's a very small complex, so you'd think they would be able to maintain it, but no - they apparently have one maintenance man for two locations, and the front desk never passes on official maintenance requests. I went three or four months complaining about my non-working dishwasher before it was fixed. The carpets when I moved in were stained with koolaid and there was some strange gray stuff ground into patches of carpet too. The bottom of the refrigerator leaked out a vile-smelling and vile-looking sludge, especially when the bottom drawer was opened. This was never repaired. They brag that they include stacking washers and dryers, but mine never worked and neither did those belong to some other people in the complex. The water from the taps smelled and tasted like something died in the pipes.
It was a thoroughly disgusting experience all round. The apartment was actually cleaner when I moved out than when I moved in, but no amount of cleaning could salvage that carpet, and there's nothing I can do to repair broken appliances - that's what the maintenance crew is supposed to do. The front office was rarely actually staffed for most of the time I lived there. It became a joke, whenever anyone needed something fixed, whether there would be anyone in the front office or not - staff skipped mornings, staff left early, staff took very long lunch breaks. Staff was very friendly when contacted but never managed to accomplish anything (would smilingly say that something would be tended to, but it never would be - ask staff again later about it and be met with a blank look).
The complex itself looks like it's falling apart. My sister came to visit and was hit on the head by a nail that fell from underneath the staircase. The cement stairs leading up to the apartments are falling apart, and the railings are not properly attached. I leaned against a railing once and almost fell from the second floor. The apartment complex is really ugly, but I could forgive ugliness if the complex itself was decent to live in. It was not. The pool, which isn't much bigger than my kitchen table, was shut down several times for failing to keep up with city code. It seems to me like the entire complex fails to keep up to levels of decency.
Parking lot is not safe. Several cars were broken into during the time I lived there. Neighbors have drunken parties, and because my bedroom window was directly in front of one of the walkways where these drunken parties took place, I couldn't sleep. Neighbors also blast very loud music. Sometimes there are "music wars" in the parking lot with two people trying to outdo each other by blasting music out of their cars. I was asked by some neighbors whether I did drugs or knew anyone who did - suspect some neighbors to be dealers, though I can't confirm this.
All these complaints were vocalized to the complex, and I sent a letter to the front office requesting these to be fixed once I realized that they're not obligated to repair things if requested by phone. Nothing was done. And yet they still expected me to renew my lease! I'm now living in a much nicer place, and my new complex is amused by just how HAPPY I am when things are repaired in a single day!
Bottom line - don't live at McCallum Corners. There are other places in the area that don't seem quite as bad and aren't too much up in price. But if you have ANY choice at all, don't live here.
