April 2007 review: jacking up the rent significantly at each lease renewal period. The only complex to NOT HAVE A COMPUTER SYSTEM. CHEAP. IF YOU HAVE A PET...IN ADDITION TO PET DEPOSIT (1/2 non-refundable/std.)....TRY $15 per month pet rent.
Absurd and abnormal. Most I've seen at 15 other complexes I investigated was $5/mo.


Review from mid-2006: Most reviews leave you with a hot or cold feeling - the reviewer clearly conveys a strong tone, hot or cold. Perhaps, no different here, but keeping the facts at play and emotions to the side, here is snapshot of my rental experience at The Saxony the past couple years:

THE GOOD: Apartment/Leasing Office staff is friendly, though some inefficiency. Quick response time to maintenance calls/inquiries. Plenty of parking. Apartments are nice (outside and inside). Price is reasonable. No major problems.

THE NOT SO GOOD: Communication between leasing office and corporate office is poor. No computer system. Even worse is communication with corporate. Won't return calls. Not interested in addressing problems.

BILLING PROBLEMS - You may find an erroneous bill on your door every month. Resolution on those is very slow and time-consuming / hassle.

SECURITY / POOL - Expect early to mid 20-yr. olds hogging the pool the entire weekend, drinking, smoking and what not. Nothing out of the ordinary..weekends and nice weather are good for that. However, when it comes to weeknights, when the rest of us actually work, you may find it slightly annoying that there are those who will drink and yell obnoxiously after 10p.m., when the pool is supposedly closed. There's a sign on the pool stating it's closed after 10 p.m. -- that's rarely adhered to, rarely enforced.

Other observations (may not be an issue for you):

Recycling: Again, might not even be a blip on your apt.-searching radar, but when your mailbox is flooded with unsolicited mail this often, you want to know that the garbage going into is somehow being salvaged. No dice. Tenants then toss this daily waste into the trashcans next to the mailboxes, ..and that, in turn, makes for a trashy environment (no pun intended). It's probably at issue with most other places as well, but that doesn't absolve mgmt. from doing something about it.

Mini-gym: Some equipment will fail you in the middle of a workout. That's problematic when you're on a treadmill, if you know what I mean. There's a television in the aerobic area that just sits there. They haven't found a way to get it up and running properly.

Access to property: Because there were so many break-ins to cars and what not (friend of mine had car window bashed in and equipment stolen..sure, happens everywhere...), so property mgmt recently decided to shut down access through most gates after 10 p.m. and before 6 a.m. Creates serious inconvenience for those of us coming home after 10 p.m. or needing to leave early most mornings.

SOCIALLY: I was anticipating more friendly people considering how huge this complex is and the quantity of younger people. Not so much. People seem to come and go quickly and without interest in interaction w/ others. They're in and out. This may be a good thing for you, but it is a little creepy and less than welcoming. Only the polar opposite seems to be available: the beer-guzzling, smoke-toting crowd will gladly offer you canned beer and include you in pool volleyball. :)

REALISTICALLY: Price is probably right. Nice interior. Landscaping looks good. Again, friendly office staff makes it pleasant.
