Huge price increase for lease renewal

Last year I signed a 15 month lease on a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment here at the Saxony. I must say that I have really enjoyed the community and love my apartment complex itself. My maintenance requests are always processed promptly (even if it is just to replace a lightbulb). The front office staff is accomodating when I need to come in and pick-up a pacakge (even if it is 5 minutes after their official "closing time"). The apartment is very spacious, I love the built-in bookshelf, huge walk-in closet and nice bathroom. So everything sounds great, right?

Well here it is 15 months later and it is time to renew my lease. I come home to find a letter stating that if I am interested in renewing my lease my rent will be increased by $95.00. That seems a bit outrageous to me.

I came to the Saxony from a 2 bed/2 bath apartment at the Montfort Place Apartments and my rent for the place was LESS than what they are asking me to pay for a 1 bedroom/1 bathoom apartment.

I would really hate to move and hope that they will work with me. As a one income household it is difficult to deal with a 15% rent price increase, especially with skyrocketing gas & food prices.

Dear Saxony Tenant - I lived at The Saxony for many many years - before the current manager - and it was the best apartment I ever lived in (I have since moved and now rent a house). Please be assured that they do that type of thing EVERY TIME there is a lease renewal and, at least until now (i.e., until this desperate economy) were always willing to work with the tenant, so don't hesitate to tell them that $95.00 is too high (IT IS). And make sure they are not including a garage or whatever in that price.... As I recall, the lease renewal notices were always written really screwey (i.e., confusing and WRONG), so make sure you are comparing what you HAVE to what you want to RENEW. Best of luck to you :)
