We moved into the building when it was much newer and people were first starting to occupy it. Back then it was an AWESOME community. Lots of young professionals and everything was quite pristine. It really felt like a luxury community.

However, the building apparently could not attract enough people, so to fill it up, they dropped their rent rates so that anyone can rent there. Our neighbors are now mostly college kids. We deliberately chose Southside so we could avoid the "dorm" atmosphere found in many apartment communities, but find ourselves actually now WORSE off than if we have rented in one of the places we were trying to avoid.

As the other reviews mentioned, there were serious issues with fire alarms being pulled. Management finally took care of that problem, but only after many MONTHS of residents being awakened at all hours of the night.

We dealt with a consistently noisy neighbor for almost a year. He played loud bass nearly every night all night long. The management was understanding, but ineffective when we first brought it to their attention. We were told we had a valid reason to complain. Eventually, they completely ignored our complaints and told us to "come to terms" with it. I cannot stress how many nights were up all night listening to bass so loud it would even drown out our TV.

The building has steadily declined.....common areas are no longer clean. We have seen people urinating on the roof near the pool in the summer time. People have shot roman candles from their apartment windows hitting other residents cars. There regularly is dog excrement in the hallways as well as other residents trash. People have etched drawings into the metal elevator doors. The common area plants keep getting stolen. These are all things we did not see happen when we first moved into the community.

The culminating event was our recent AK-47 experience in which some suicidal tenant on the 7th floor barricaded herself in her loft. The whole building had to be shut down and the Dallas SWAT team was called in. Apparently, even though our leases say we cannot have firearms, this lady and her husband were able to openly cart these weapons past our concierge. The concierge who saw it did not seem to mind at all and was even joking about seeing it. What made the whole situation even more alarming was that building management NEVER addressed the issue with other tenants. You would think that they would at least circulate some kind of memo or something to put up the pretense that they are concerned about safety.

If you think what I described above sounds like fun, SouthSide is the place for you. However, if you really would prefer an upscale or luxury living environment, you want to rent elsewhere.
