Looks like the hooligans left town, very quiet and homey now

I've been at South Side for going on a month now. Moved in from the northern burbs of Dallas. It appears that the hooligans that were mentioned in previous postings have left town. I'm on a middle floor, just off from the elevators and most of the time things are so quiet I wonder if I'm all alone here. (I have met my neighbors, so I know I'm not alone.)
There was a disturbance in the hall a couple nights ago (kids running up and down the hall). The courtesy officers were up here in about 30 seconds from the time it started. And it hasn't happened again since.
Management appears to have renewed interest in making SSOL a nice place to live. The rooftop walking track has been eliminated because the roof couldn't handle it. The pool is neat and in good repair. And the hot tubs are in the midst of being replaced with commercial units. (Who in their right mind decided to put "residential" units in an apartment complex anyway!') The gym is well kept and stocked better than most apartment complexes. It probably helps there are 2 prominent personal trainers who live, do business and hold classes here - and from what I gather there are a handful more on top of those 2. I walk on the treadmill most days and have been impressed with how many people actually clean the equipment (towel and sanitizer is provided) when they're done using it.
The gals (and guys) in the leasing office appear to have their hands full. They're always busy when I breeze through the office. But they've always been courteous to me so far.
A new bar/lounge, named Absinthe, has opened downstairs since I moved in. Not my cup of tea, but it does look neat. The Market Panty (the onsite convenience store) is severely overpriced but darn convenient when you don't feel like driving the 5 miles or so up to the closest grocery store. Standard and Pours (the coffee shop) lacks variety in their food menu but makes up for it in their beverage menu (and the owner is a neat lady).
I haven't really had a need for maintenance, but I see them running around the building doing stuff all the time. So at least I know they're actually here. They did replace all the light bulbs in my apartment with new fluorescent ones before I moved in - and no I didn't ask for them. Not a big fan of fluorescents, but at least they are trying to conserve energy.
Grande Communications provides the cable, phone and internet service here. The cable lineup is ok, but minimalist - it's delivered as regular TV to the apartment but comes in on the roof via satellite. The DSL is 1.5/384 and as such is on par w/ SBC's normal offering - though costs a bit more. The phone service is plain old dialtone... what can you say, it works. I opted for their "Triple Play" package which bundles phone, all the cable channels (even HBO and the other premiums) and DSL together for $99/mo. I also added unlimited long distance for $20/mo since I work from home most of the time. Service has been ok, though I have had 4 rounds of fits with tech support on various issues. They're nice enough, but generally clueless. And I was overbilled on my first bill.
Overall, living here is very convenient and everything I expected. I like having all the services in the building (dry cleaners, coffee shop, video rental, etc.). Though I do *really* miss being 2 minutes from Wal-Mart - which I was when I was living in the burbs. I will reiterate that it's so quiet here most of the time I wonder if the place is disserted. But I meet people in the hall every day, so I know there are people here.
One final note... the USPS appears to have a problem getting mail in the correct boxes around here. It's not SSOL's fault or problem, but on a given day a hundred or so pieces of mail end up in a bin marked "mis-boxed mail" at the concierge desk. Since SSOL doesn't put the mail in the boxes, there isn't much they can do. I haven't lost anything yet, but I have received other people's mail in my box.
