I Wouldn't Rent Here Again...

I'll begin by saying that this complex has so much potential. It's different than tradtional "ant farm" apartment communities...and for those of us in town houses, it feels as if we have our own homes. I've been here for almost 5 years, management is hit or miss. Henry S. Miller is the property mangager now. When I moved in, and it was run by Barrington, things were fixed promptly, the landscaping was well done, security lights and gates worked and the lawns, there's lots of green space, were green.

The property has been in a slow decline since it was purchased by a company to develop into condos. The market went bad...and we're still here.

At the end of March, I was ready to turn in my notice as I had found another complex that was a little newer, and a whole lot more energy efficient. Electric bills during the summer are ENORMOUS!

The manager asked what it would take for me to renew my lease. The old, underpowered compressor unit had to go. The maintenance guy here says it's too small for my size of unit. It was my main priority. I was also promised new wood blinds, a new water heater, mine leaks, a new sink in the bathroom and a few other minor things.

I agreed and signed the lease. My problem is I didn't get it in writing.
The next day, I reported that my AC wasn't working. I didn't need it yet, but wanted to jump ahead of the rush before it got hot.

Jump forward two weeks later, nothing has been done. Now the manager who made the promises has quit and I'm stuck with the lease...and a massive mistrust for any property manager ever again.

This morning, our maintenence guy came and rigged the unit so it will work, but it runs continuously, and I have to use the breaker to turn it on or off...or let my electric bill go through the roof. I went to Lowes to buy what I needed to make the repair myself...though it's by no means professional...it at least works.

The property manager is changing on May 1, and they have been ordered to not purchase any major items...like the new compresser unit that was promised to me so I would re-sign my lease.

Now, I'm stuck. Legally, I have no recourse. Promises that were made will probably not happen...and I will more than likely have to stay here for six more months...

I hope the new property managers will do the right thing but confidence is at a rock-bottom low.

If you are looking at leasing here, I would seriously reconsider it until issues with the property manager are straightened out.
