Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
When I moved into my apartment it was FILTHY. It was vacant for three months beforehand, and no one ever bothered to do a walk-through before I moved in. Everything was caked with dirt and dust, and I ended up trying to clean the place myself for three days. After two years of living there, there were still corners and crevices and certain things that I wouldn't touch.
Noise was definitely a problem. I lived on the Walnut Hill side of the complex, so the apartments were long and narrow, with the bedroom on the parking lot side of it. I could hear people walking down the stairs when they left for work in the morning, I could hear every voice and noise outside in the parking lot when I was trying to sleep, and I could hear the guy above me taking a piss, his phone when it rang, and my next door neighbor's TV. I could also occasionally smell the dinner one of my neighbors was cooking.
The office staff was hit or miss...it just really depending on who you spoke with when you called. The manager is sort of a flit and was very rude at times, but some of the other women in the office were cool and very helpful. The maintenace guys were really cool and really nice...they'd say HI and wave when I drove by. They did sometimes take a while to get around to getting things done. I would sometimes look out the window or drive through the parking lot and see them just chillin' by their truck talking. But they did their work well and did it right.
The only reason I stayed there for two years was because I was tired of moving year after year and didn't have the finances to start up a new apartment lease somewhere else. This place did increase my rent in one of my renewals though.
