Some Good, Some Bad, but mostly bad...

The current property manager is a complete air head. She constantly loses rent and utility checks. We've received notices several times saying that we were late paying rent when we had actually paid weeks ago. More than once, we've had to go to our bank and request a copy of the canceled check proving that the management office had already deposited it in their account. Furthermore, she forgets to inform you when there's a package for you that was delivered to the leasing office. So, unless you know to expect a package, then you will never receive it. Several times I've had people send me a surprise flower/plant basket and the florist delivered it to the apartment leasing office because I was not home at the time. But, I never received them because the management office never informed me that there was a delivery waiting for me.
Also, recently the service company that maintains the washers and dryers has raised the price of the washing machines. However, despite the raise in cost, they hardly ever maintain the machines. Some of the machines have never worked properly in the 6 years that I ve lived in this complex. As the property manager, I would think that she would be interested in assuring that all of the services provided within the Newport complex are in good working order. But, nothing is ever done about it and tenants continually lose money in the machines time and time again.
Although the layout of the units and the spanish-tile floors are nice, the property has bad foundation problems which causes leaks. There is also a bad bug problem and we often get the smell of sewage coming from the air vents. The unit that we live in is supposed to have two full-baths, but the bug and leakage problems are so bad in one of the showers, that we have never been able to use the bath/shower in the guest bathroom. The maintenance staff is good and the work is usually done in a timely manner. However, you have to contact the maintenance staff directly to let them know that there is a problem. Otherwise, your maintenance request will be lost if you tell the management staff.
Furthermore, the complex was just recently purchased by another owner. Although they intend to tear it down within the next year or so and resell the units as condominiums, they continue to allow new tenants to move into the complex so that they do not lose any money.
Over all the layout of the apartments are nice and the rent price is not bad, but there are too many managerial problems with this complex that make it not worth your while. I wouldn't suggest moving into the Newport unless you don't mind losing your money within a year after they begin the renovations.
