Ive lived in the northwest corner of the Wimberly Apartments for about a year now. Youll notice we age quicker up there, where the wind swirls a bit more coldly, and urban darwinisim runs a little more rampant than in the lush southside with their grassy knolls and wooden designer carports (no doubt erected to entice potential customer base among the passing Horizon N Pkwy traffic).

The train behind us relentlessly roars by, blowing Kroger bags into the dead trees behind the wall (creating a phenomenon we like to call Wimberly Bagworms); if you listen hard you can hear the engineer cackling after he sounds the horn, waking all the new residents on the north face like some giant nocturnal rooster. You can do two things: embrace this as your only comforting exchange among the mass of indifferent neighbors surrounding you (I dont hold it against them; I too am cold and indifferent. We share a resigned understanding of apartment life on the northwest side). Or, like me, you can learn to forget the train. It really doesnt take too long, but you have to be careful. Somehow as I conditioned myself to block out the roar of the train in my sleep, I managed to train myself to block out the sounds of a car windshield shattering and my own car driving off. Because last year I woke up to an empty parking spot, and now, several months later, I walk out to a backseat full of glass and a missing cd player. Well most of it is there, the person mustve only needed half the player and a car door to bleed on.

The Wimberly staff, appropriately but unfortunately less-friendly after youve John Hancocked your lease, have compensated my troubles with a free parking spot between metal poles and a Lexus that no doubt will be a daily challenge to squeeze between without leaving paint somewhere (a risk Im willing to take to ensure the safety and comfort of my automobiles).

Dont get me wrong, Im not mad; its just another day on the Wimberly northwest side. Represent.
