I've lived here for two years with my wife, and we've decided that moving away from here is the best choice for us and our unborn child. Unfortunately, I have little to no positive to report about these apartments, except that it was ONCE a decent place to live and call home.

My honest review:

1. Pricing - When the apartments were sold late last year, the new management/owners decided that the best way to get to know their tenants and make a great first impression, was to raise rent by at least $100.00 for all units. (We actually went from paying $625.00 to $745.00.) No lie!!! Unfortunately, our lease was up shortly after they raised rent so we did not have a choice to leave without a 30 day notice. (Also having nowhere else to go, and such little notice.) We had to sign another 6 month lease. The apartments are so old and sadly for the owners, a fresh coat of paint on the outside will not hide what's on the inside. That's right... as problems INSIDE these apartments continue to be an issue, these people thought it was top priority to paint the entire complex olive green, mustard yellow, and bright orange-red, with gloss black doors and railings. (Which is already chipping off!!!)

2. Staff helpfulness and overall attitude/safety of the premises - The new owners/staff have done more bad than good to this place and for the residents. (I completely agree and feel for those last few people who have posted reviews on here.) The staff does not address concerns of residents and only seem to care about how the apartments appear to look from the outside, leaving real problems unattended to. For example: MANY of us have voiced our concerns regarding the dimly lit parking lots and lack of any form of security or cameras in this NON-gated community. Nothing has been done, and that was brought up a long time ago by a LOT of people living here.

3. Beware of the head of maintenance - This guy is a complete tool. Not only is he an extremely rude and hostile person, but I caught him looking at my wife in an improper way when he didn't think I was looking as he fixed a door in our hallway. Absolutely unacceptable! The rest of the maintenance crew are friendly though. I feel sorry that they have to follow orders from this person.

4. Parking and Mailbox location - First off, the parking here is a nightmare! Forget it if you work an evening shift. You will have to walk two or three buildings away from your front door in the dark. The mailboxes were once directly in front of the office in a very well lit area. Management must have decided that they didn't want to have to see residents up and down their front porch all day getting mail, so they moved them over to the end of the parking lot in a building that is unsafely placed (along with the already dark environment at night). I want to know why cameras haven't been mounted in this community which is ungated and not secure!!'

5. Noise - To be fair, I'm sure that there are some that probably don't have a problem with unwanted noise at night. Unfortunately, we are not one of those families. Our section of the complex has turned into party central even during the week, and the cops have been called out way to much. (3 times in the past two weeks.) This was the "nail in the coffin" so to speak, when helping us decide if we wanted to move out. With a little one on the way, we've decided that this is just not the place for us to raise a child until we can afford to buy a home. We'll be renting elsewhere...

6. Pets - Cats were once the only acceptable animal with a deposit. New management have now turned this into a "no pet's allowed" community. I do believe that the people who had cats before the place was sold get to keep their pets though. So, forget that too if you're a new resident. No pets allowed now. I wonder if the staff realize how many people in America have and love animals...

7. Laundry facilities - Unkept. Older machines have left rust on my clothing and ruined some of my wife's things too. An elderly woman who lives near us made the comment the other day that the washers have remained the same for years and years. So, not only are there old appliances and such inside the apartments, but in their laundry buildings as well. Also, they do not enforce the "no smoking" policy in there. Again, unacceptable.

8. Inside the apartment itself - I've been mentioning it here and there in this review, but the interior is falling apart. Their website claims they have the best appliances and such... total bull! Beware when you move in if they haven't given you new carpet (which is also extremely cheap and low quality). They will dye the carpet so you don't see stains left there from people before you, until about 2 months into your lease when the dye wears off. I will bet money that they'd blame you for theoe stains (as they probably will us), and keep your deposit.

9. Utility bills - BEWARE!!! I had two utility bills placed in my mailbox both addressed to me with the same time frame of energy usage... one said I owed $78.00 and the other said $154.00. When I confronted the office on which one was correct, they blamed the printing system/an unnamed person and stated that the $154.00 bill was correct. (This was in March, when not the heater nor air conditioning was overly used.) This has happened to two other people that I know of. Seems quite shady to me. If there's not a law in Texas that puts a limit to how much property owners can charge for rent, what's to say that they aren't making up utility bills as well'

In my opinion, the new owners have completely destroyed what used to be a decent place to live and have given tenants a reason to believe that they are liars that do not care about the well-being of the residents. It really says alot when they will gloss over with a fresh coat of paint while people are suffering pest infestations, failing appliances that they refuse to replace, and safety issues. Regardless of all of this, management still puts on a smile for anyone new coming by inquiring on a place to live. It's absolutely disgusting. DO NOT LIVE HERE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND YOUR FAMILY!

Well said! I completely agree with the entire assessment of these apartments. I've posted here before regarding this complex and to date nothing has changed, only gotten worse. My husband and I will be leaving at the end of our lease. Its sad too because prior to the new owners, this was a decent place to live.

I'd just like to clarify a couple of things. I've been in the apratment business for 17 1/2 years. 16 years in Mass., and a year and a half at Deerwood. I've always performed my duties to the best of my ability. If there has ever been a problem with the maintenance tasks, it should be mentioned to the office manager so that it can be corrected. Finally, not now nor have a I ever improperly looked at anyones wife. I have a wife and 2 children of my own. I don't appreciate these false accusations. This leaves a bed impression on me and I take offense to it. I take my job seriously as I have a family to provide for. If this action was done, why would I even consider risking my job in this manner? Wrongful accusations are damaging to anyones career, and I don't appreciate it.

Personally, I've never had a problem with this "head of maintenance" guy myself, but I do have a neighbor who told me that he has been rude to her before right in front of management (as they did nothing about it). So if anything, that should say something. Nice review! I can't wait to get out of here myself. Good luck!
