Every anniversary I will refresh my experience with Coronado North.
It takes a year for them to file any sort of collections against you if you refuse to pay their outlandish and unfair cleaning or move-out fees. I know this because one year ago, I moved out, and I just now got their collections on my credit report. Do not let them bully you...in fact, you can settle for less money with collections than with them face to face.....that's how you play there game.
I still remain scathed at the B.S. for the move out charges....especially trying to charge me fro bleed through of paint on the walls--it is ludicrous since they painted the walls and I never dirtied them.
What also stands out in my mind is their accusation that I used pesticides in the refrigerator! I cleaned it with windex, soap and water.
Insist on having the true move out checklist when you do the final walk through, and do not let them say "we'll know after the cleaning crew goes through."
50 bucks to clean a 2ft by 2 ft area under the burner of your stove....ya right.
I offered to pay what I felt were true costs of cleaning the apartment. They would not budge and neither would I. That is why I waited for nearly a year for it to hit collections so I can settle with collections.
I've filled a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well.
Original posting:
I lived at C. North from July 2006 to November 2007. I was a college student at TWU during that time. I was never late on rent or caused any sort of nuisance for the staff of community; just a quite college student.
First, let me give the pro's of the community. It is in within walking distance of TWU. The apartments are tucked away in a fairly quite neighborhood, and I often went walking or running during the day or at night without fear. The maintenance staff is very nice, do a good job, and the office is good about fixing issues in a very timely matter. They have FIOS internet now. Assigned covered parking is a benefit, too. Unfortunately, these are the pro's of the complex.
There are many con's with this complex, though. The apartments are older, so that in itself will create issues for the resident. I lived in a north-facing apartment, and received the full blast of winter's winds. My apartment was very drafty and the wind howled quite often. My electric bills were very high during the winter and peak summer months; my bill in February ran $130 for a one bedroom, and that was just keeping it warm. The July/ August bills were also high, running about 140 bucks. The ac unit was very inefficient complained twice about how the condenser needed to be replaced because the fins were all crushed, not allowing the air to be cooled. The second time around, the maintenance man straightened out the fins, but by that time, summer was over, so I don't know if it improved the ac's performance.
The apartment has insufficient lighting, and the apartment is dimly lit throughout, especially the kitchen and living room; the ceiling fans rattle and investing in oscillitating fans would be beneficial in aiding the ac unit.
In a previous entry, a person was displeased with the moving out charges and damages. I too am displeased with their charges, and I am disputing some of them now. I will own up to the charges resulting from damaged walls, but to me, they charge excessive fees seeming the apartment is not up to there standard. The apartment felt a little dingy when I moved in, and that is the way I left it feeling; but I thoroughly cleaned the baseboards, refrigerator, kitchen, bathroom, etc, so I know in my mind that the apartment was as clean as I received it, and that is why I am disputing some of the charges. Mind you, the lighting is very poor, so it gives that dingy illusion anyway.
Also, there is a clause in the contract about "normal wear and tear" that applies if you have lived there for over a year, and being that I lived there a year and a half, the apartment will be prone to some wear. I guess what I will have to dispute is the subjective nature of their definition of "wear and tear"; perhaps it means "none at all" to avoid any sort of excessive fees.
The bathroom is small and has little storage. The bathtub was stained when I moved in and you can see cracks up on the sides and corners of the shower where it was patched with some sort of white colored compound.
The community lacks any sort of work out facilities. The laundry room...ough! The driers work well, but at a 1.25 a cycle' The washers are sub par and one of them doesn't work, and was never fixed after I called the repair number on the machine. You must have a key to get into the laundry room, and the door knob's lock has a hard time accepting the key they give you. The door has been busted in several times and repaired; wouldn't it be easier to replace the damn lock' I don't know much about the pool, and I never saw anyone using the grilling picnic area.
Another issue that I have had is an issue with the Denton cops. There is a convenience store on the corner of Bell and Coronado where Denton "slops" stake out the stops sign to get people who run them, or "California" stop them. I was pulled over twice because of them. The first time was a questionable call on their part, and I received a citation. I didn't have the money to contest it in court, so I paid it, being a broke a** college student. I was pulled over a second time, and I wasn't going to stand for the B.S. anymore!! I made a right hand turn after coming to a complete stop and allowing two vehicles to clear the intersection. The officer said I ran the stops sign...however, the north side of the bell/coronado intersection is obscured by a fence, and she could not see me, or the stop line which I stopped behind; she was camping way over by the Coronado Condo's. I got in a heated yelling match with her and my argument was made clear, and I had a passenger who witnessed, so...she let me go and I watched her leave the area. This may not be an issue with the apartment, but you have to travel through that intersection to get there...BEWARE the DENTON SLOPS!
Well, I guess that's enough for you to make a decision regarding this apartment. After moving to a nicer and newer apartment in Dallas, I realize that Coronado North is just a place to "hang your hat" and "get your mail," and will make you appreciate what a college degree will do for you in the long run.
For the money, get a roommate and/or live in Cooper's Glen, The Cornerstone or The Waterford. If you want a place of your own, I lived at Woodhill apartments on Teasley and it was nicer for the same price, despite the traffic of 35/ Teasley/ Dallas Drive. I hope this helps all of you college kids to spend your money wisely.

Maybe it's not omission, maybe it is the fact that either it wasn't worth writing about or maybe they have never heard of this website....
They actually pay you an hourly wage to sit here and write responses to people's posts? So that's where all the money goes when you choose not to tell anyone until the 20th when the check doesn't clear or when you charge some a $100 fee when the cigarette butts arent don't even belong to them..... Go figure.
