I hope life treats you better

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
I am sad to admit that I had lived in the Campus Square Apartments for a litte over a year. The apartments are pretty gruff. If you are a young college student that can hold your own and lives on $500-$600 per month, by all means feel free to choose these apartments. However, anyone that is either to soft skinned or use to the finer things in life, you will be in for a rude awakening. The apartments are old and are falling apart.
When I lived there, the apartments just installed window units that kept the place nice. Before the units were installed, the complex was set up with the same h/ac design as the dorms. Needless to say, you can tell if your neighbor 3 doors down was cooking, smoking, had music on etc. Despite the fact that the complex is made up concrete, you can still hear your neighbors fairly well. Also, never leave anything against the windows. The condensation will make it grose, destroyed, or moldy.
I would only recommend this complex as an emergency place to live. The maintance people usually has no clue on how to fix anything. The manager staff was pretty okay. I think they were trying to do the best with what they had. The leasing agent was pretty nice. She new that the apartments weren't great, but would try to do her best to help you out. The manager was nice to me.
I did notice that she would get very frustrated if people did not expect for the place to be perfect and she would tend to be less understanding in type of help that you would need. She would usually say that her manager wouldn't allow her to do anything first without consulting him or the home office, which I saw wasnt always the case.
If you are having problems getting anything fixed, send your maintance request by certified mail. This will give them only a certain amount of time to actually fix the problem. Also, I found that you can talk to the main manager of the management company. If you have a legitamate reason for being there, he usually responds pretty quickly. Also, if you choose to live there, make sure of your rights. Look at Texas Apartment Association - http://www.taa.org . Also, if you have problems (like excessive water damage, there's usually water leaks about 1-2 per month)ask the leasing office for a copy of your lease to show your lawyer (usually campus attorney).
If you are looking at this place, preceed with caution & don't bring anything that is not replacable to this apartment. Renter's insurance is a must!
Also, if you have children, do not bring them hear. At night, this place attracts a variety of interesting people. If you are forced to move hear with your babies, sign the least numbers of months for your lease & make it your goal to move ASAP!
Also, be careful at night. Lighting in the parking lot was pretty bad & I know there were some disturbances. I would check with the police department to look at the crime in that area!
