I moved to UNT three years ago and being unfamiliar with the area Place to Be SEEMED like an reasonable choice because they had all the closest locations to campus with the best places to park my car, and what I thought was reasonable rates for a college town. (as compared to Austin TX) After living there for a year though I discovered how incredibly ripped off I had been. Employees were uncaring and intrusive. The apartment was small, cramped, and horribly designed to make living there not only uncomfortable but ugly, and unsuitable for any size couch. My car was broken into three times while i lived there and no one bothered to call me back about the matter. They only did yard mantinance while i was sleeping (usually saturday around dawn) and made sure to make as much noise right by my window as was possible. The area flooded EVERY time it rained and made leaving and entering my home without getting soaked and ruining the carpets impossible, then they charged me for it after I had already had them professionally cleaned twice (my dad owns a carpet cleaning place) I had six friends come over a week in advance to clean before I moved out and they took my entire deposit for cleaning and other needless charges. I recieved a nasty letter about not having paid full rent when I realized that I had accidently written the check out for TEN CENTS less than was due. I was told i wasn't allowed to have anything on my back patio including my brand new patio chairs, and they have very strict rules about pets. And all the while they were charging me so much for rent I could barely afford to buy ramen. I've talked to numerous people who have had the EXACT same experience I had and most of them left after one year because they up the rent (only for certain residents I found out) each year, except for newbies who have no idea what to expect then they proably give them the same "great package" I got when i first moved here.
Keep looking! If your desperate, go to university courtyard, they have a really nice set up though your playing roulette with the roomate situation, or do what I did and move into the Franciscian Apartments! My landlords have bent over backwards to keep me happy and they charge me half as much for an extra bedroom! The complex is clean and charming with nice neighbors, enclosed parking, exceptions for certain pets, and only an extra one minute walk to campus! And the landlords are so nice and understanding it's like renting from your own parents. Denton is still really inexpensive if you don't fall for the corporate circus routine. Don't rent Place to Be all they need is your signature and they'll bury their hands so deep in your wallet you'll have to put off paying your student loans to make due.
