If you are a student at UNT or TWU who doesn't have any close ties to the Denton/Dallas area, living in a "student living community" seems like a good move. You don't have to worry about buying furniture or setting up utilities.
Since leaving the dorms, I have lived at CityParc and now at the Exchange. I have been here for three days and am already making arrangements to move back.
It may look nice, but once you get past the glossy exterior, there isn't much substance to this place.
They assigned me my THIRD choice of room, despite the fact that I signed my lease before my two roommates. The room I have is TINY compared to the one I had a CityParc. Plus, the genius architect who designed this place thought it'd be a good idea to put the bathroom door AND bedroom door on the same wall and put the closet door on another, leaving me with only TWO usable walls. I cannot watch t.v. and lay in bed at the same time without employing some acrobatics.
Also, my room has a lovely view of six loud air conditioning units that are ALWAYS. ON.
The first day I moved in, my key broke in the lock. I also found that the carport I leased so that I would always parking was not right in front of my building as promised, but on the other side of the parking lot.
When I tried to plug up my internet, it didn't work. The management advised me that their internet technician was on vacation (during move-in week') and that I'd have to turn off all the switches in my circuit breaker to reset the connection. It worked, but my roommates were not thrilled about that.
There are also way too many people here. If you prefer a lively atmosphere fine. But believe it or not, the sometimes rowdy atmosphere of CityParc does not even come CLOSE to this place. Mostly since CP has far fewer apartments.
I also discovered that my roommates and I have to SHARE a mailbox. That's right. All of our mail is delivered into ONE box. I just don't think that's safe. Especially when you're rooming with people you've never met a day in your life.
I will say that the kitchen does have alot more counter space and storage space than is available at CityParc, but that's just about the only advantage I can think of, aside from the fact that it's much closer to the freeway.
The Exchange does NOT include utilities in your rent. It has to be set up in someone's name (either yours or your roommates) and is added on top of your rent. Sure, the $30/resident electricity cap at CityParc seems paltry, but that's still $30 dollars you don't have to pay on top of your monthly rent check.
I'm not happy at all with my accommodations here at the Exchange. The sooner I can get the hell out of this place, the better.

Managment told me the internet guy was at another property helping with their move in. I dont see why you complain about the way your internet was fixed...IT GOT FIXED so be happy. If you are unable to tust 2 other people, you shouldnt live in college housing where you have roomates! The Exhange's prices are cheaper than CP's so the extra $30 for electricity (only electricity, and no other utilites) still beats CP's prices. If you want hardwood floors and a red accent wall, go back to CP, but good luck getting an apartment. From what I hear they are leased up.

First off, they shouldn't have just ONE internet guy for a property that large, and how hard would it be to have each resident get their own mailbox? The "Postal Center" at The Exchange isn't even as big as a park gazebo. Why not give a real mail room? And the Exchange is NOT cheaper. When you take the electricity cap into account, they cost about the same. A 2x2 at The Exchange is 573/mo. and at City Parc it's 604/mo., which puts them at about the same price, but City Parc gives you a much bigger room. My room here at the Exchange is ridiculously small. And thanks, I've already got my name on a waiting list for City Parc, so hopefully I can get the hell out of here as soon as possible. |
