So... I transferred to North Texas in Aug. 2007 and saw that Gateway was the best choice, based on price and quality. All was well until a lot of moving around began to happen in my building. People were moving in and people were moving out, and somewhere in the mix, ROACHES moved in too. And of course it didn't help that my neighbors were filthy either. When I first saw one, I killed it with some bug spray and took it the front office so they could handle it. (I DON'T DO BUGS, IT'S A SERIOUS ISSUE) They put us on the list to spray our apartment, and so it went like this for about a month. They'd spray, they'd go away, and then they'd come back.
After a while, I was fed up, I don't know how roaches live and migrate but I figured Terminex did and they would have the issue resolved. It turns out that all that was happening was a ping pong tournament between apartments. When I did some investigating and found out our neighbors were seeing them too (but failed to complain) I let them know, because before then, the staff laughed and called us dirty. They'd spray ours, the roaches went next door, they'd spray next door, and they came back. After bringing this to the attention of the "professionals" and stalking the property manager, (because none of the staff was telling her about our multiple complaints a week) we came up with a plan to fully exterminate building six. Unfortunately, that plan was not followed through. Therefore, I am still being held hostage by uninvited guests in my apartment, and again, having to stalk the property manager to figure out a way to break my lease.
This might not be the case in all buildings, but I think that for the money I pay I shouldn't have to try and battle the roaches myself because the people I'm paying won't handle it. So, if you're planning on moving here, you do have the option of picking your apartment. I suggest you don't be shy. Go and meet your potential neighbors before signing your lease. If they are filthy, they prob have roaches because the little critters are on the property and they are here to stay.

I also had bugs when I was unfortunate enough to live there (building 9). Ants, spiders, you name it. They blamed it on "new construction" (and refused to do anything). It was a first floor apartment, I had to get rid of the fire ants myself by spreading bait around the perimeter of our apartment. We had a friend on the other side of the complex who woke up covered in them (in her bed). They also did nothing about that. Her internet didn't work the ENTIRE time she lived there, ours was finicky.
So sorry you have to live there. Worst year of my life. Move to The Oaks!

Blah i live at Gateway right now and yes there are fun parties. And the bus route is nice to have, very nice! But not worth it. The internet is always down, its over priced. The carpet is disgusting!!! And the furniture is so outdated. I'm in the process of moving out sicne its toward the end of the summer and they kep coming up with more and more charges. It may seem fun but just make friends with someone who lives here and come to the parties or park here and us the bus. Thats what plent y ppl do considering the parking lot is always full and sometimes CANT get a spot!
