You Can't Handle The Truth.. It's A Long One..

Here is the truth about Gateway... For those of you who want to whine, complain, etc.. I wish you would all shut up. Obviously most of you are just children who have never lived anywhere else, so you don't realize that EVERY APARTMENT HAS IT'S ISSUES! I have worked in the business of leasing for several years (and no, NOT for Gateway!) I have, however, lived at the Gateway, formerly known as the Exchange. For the most part, I thought that this was a wonderful place to live. It's one of the newest complexes, relatively clean, and I think that the management/office staff has done the best they can with the circumstances they have been given. (The circumstance of dealing with a bunch of whiney-ass teenagers and their overbearing parents)... The staff passed out "bus-stop breakfast" on more than one occassion, had awesome pool parties, efficent maintenance, and outside the building that I lived, there was always plenty of parking. For those of you who think the office staff is rude/don't know what they are talking about/don't care whats going on with you... I thought they were very sweet. They truly WANTED to help resident's out. The staff always struck up conversation with me when I went in, they knew me and my dog by name, and seemed pretty cool. I even saw them at parties sometimes. However, it seemed that the boss did not always let her staff know what page to be on. The boss (at the time that I lived there), seemed fairly scatter-brained. She would tell you what she thought you wanted to hear, and then forget about it, never doing what she promised. She also never answered the phone or returned messages, I didn't blame it on the staff when I called to speak with her, though, they were only doing what they were told! I do not blame her for this either, though, the company should have given her more adequate training to handle a student property, or perhaps had her as an assistant manager instead of a manager. She wanted to help, but she seemed to avoid confrontation at all costs. During the time that I lived lived there I would hear several of my neighbors complain about the living situations with their roomates...What did you expect when you did roomate matching' It's no different than the dorms. One person on here claimed they were "thrust into an apartment with total strangers".. UM, THAT'S WHAT ROOMATE MATCHING IS'! HA... And, I'm pretty sure you weren't "thrust", you chose to be there. If this is not what you want, get a one bedroom somewhere else, or live with friends (that is, assuming you have any). Furthermore, you are a dumbass if you think that maintenance stole from you.. Laughable. The maintenance seemed to be the most honest people working for the company! All they do is do their job, and as glorious as plunging your toilet may sound, I bet it's not a fun job and you should give them more respect. On the subject of noise: Um, college property..Again, if you didn't expect this, you are dumber than I thought. If you wanted to live at a nice, quiet property, why don't you go down the street to Rosemont, the apartment's for the elderly.. I'm sure they wouldn't give you as much trouble. I never had a problem with parking at my building, although I did notice it at a couple others. But, unless you paid for a parking pass, there is nothing that entitles you to being able to park right in front of you building. It's first come, first serve, and that includes people's guests.. So if you have to park a building down, do it, and walk your lazy ass to your door..You probably need the exercize anyway! Oh, and your roomate issues'' How about you grow up and do what people in the real world do.. Resolve it like adults. Leasing agent's have much better things to do than to try and resolve the issue of your roomate not washing the dishes...You think it's wrong that you are bound into the lease with no way of breaking it' Again, no one's fault but your own... You signed the lease, maybe you should start reading legal documents before signing them..To the people that complained about the gate's being jacked open..You are probably the same idiot's who ran over them in the first place. (These were constantly broken when I lived there, due to the fact that people kept tapping them with their car's.. I saw it twice myself). People didn't break into your apartment because the gate was open, they broke in because it's Denton and you were too stupid to lock your door! On one final note, I would like to say that the only real problem I ever had here was the internet connection being down. Again, not the office's fault. If you knew how these things worked, you would know that the owners/managment (NOT the staff OR manager)were to blame. My building was struck by lightning twice while I lived there, this is why mine did'nt work.. And assuming the staff CANNOT control and act of God, I waited for mine to be fixed. It took awhile, due to them having to contract someone out to fix it, but eventually it did work again. I have heard since that they installed a more efficent system. In conclusion, if you are looking for a great college experience, and a really fun/safe play to live, I would suggest Gateway to you. But if you are a college student who is still a momma's boy/ daddy's girl, and think the world owes you something/are going to piss and whine, RUN AWAY!!! They don't need OR want you! :)

hmm. i suppose some of the things that you said are correct but lets not be so biased, huh? not everyone that lived there was a "whiney teenaged momma/daddy's boy or girl". i am not and no matter what the circumstances are, your internet should never be out for nearly a month. especially if they don't have intentions of taking it off your bill because don't be fooled, you are paying for it. especially being a college student where most of your assignments are posted online. i'm sure you can related to that. also, i was threatened to be fined 20 dollars for having my bike on the balcony and while taking it up with the front office, no one had an answer to give me. that's simply unprofessional. maybe the boss is scatter brained and doesn't have her employees on the same page, but it should never have taken 3 people to find out whether or not a simple policy is in fact valid or not. there were some perks but this being my 3rd apartment to live in, i was very unsatisfied with how things were handled. but please do us all a favor, and stop assuming things about the tenants at gateway. they were in fact possibly neighbors that invited you to their parties, huh?

This review was probably written by someone in the leasing office. I moved out of there when I graduated with my masters. I was 23.
So I say this not as some whiny 18 year old daddy's girl, but as an adult: The Gateway is aptly named because it's like the gateway to hell. It's terrible.
Ever wondered just why the so-called security gate is NEVER closed? It's because the management actively ENCOURAGES students from the other complexes in the surrounding area (the Arbors and the Place to Be apartments up the street) to come to the Gateway and use the pool and stuff. You may THINK the management is throwing all those barbecues for the residents but they are not. The reason they do this is because they are incapable of hanging on to most of their residents for more than one year, so they court the students living in the area to try and get replacements. That's why residents who actually pay rent can't find parking spots past 6 in the evening.
After living there for ONE SEMESTER, I tried to move out, but when I asked if there was a waiting list of prospective tenants so that I wouldn't have to look really hard to find a someone to take over my lease, they told me there was a waiting list--of vacating residents. Basically, for my lease to be taken over by someone looking to lease with the Gateway, I would have had to wait for *37* different current residents to have their spots taken first. Needless to say, I didn't get to move out that December.
Unfortunately, I also couldn't afford to move out at the end of the school year due to money issues. I ended up spending two whole years at the Gateway and I hated just about every damn second of it. Especially the handful of times we lost internet service for longer than 7 days (that happened FOUR TIMES when I lived there!)
I am so, very, very glad I was finally able to move from there. None of my roommates I had stayed past their first year. This reviewer is right, every apartment complex has it's problems, but The Gateway takes it to a whole new level of fail.

I agree, this person has no idea what theyre talking about. I havent lived with "mommy and daddy" for 6 yrs. this is the 3rd apartment ive lived in and by far the worst. i just moved to denton at the beginning of last year to start my masters and i wish i hadnt moved from so far away bc i would have brought furniture with me to move elsewhere. but i wasn't about to move furniture 1,000 miles so it looks like ill be here next year dammit. i dont mind the parties. but when it gets to be 5 am and i can still hear the lyrics to my neighbors music (on a weeknight) its a little ridiculous. the walls are so thin. we have maintenance issues like every other day. and they really need to start fining people for just putting their trash outside their front door. thats why there are bugs (and other animals that rip open the bags) almost every apartment in my building leaves their trash outside their door for days at a time. this isnt a resort. y'all are grown ups take out ur own trash. im 23 and i'd almost rather live in a dorm than this hell hole. atleast RA's are on top of this stuff unlike this staff that just rolls their eyes at you when you complain bc they are the ones making the problems, and tell you 500 times they'll leave a message for the manager but somehow SHE NEVER CALLS BACK.
