I have never been more happy to vacate an apartment as I am to leave CG @ Bear Creek. The mandated cable was the first straw, the pulling of the 20 or so dumpsters around the property and replacing them with one compactor was the last straw.
In the defense of the property, which is owned by a huge property mangement company, the staff is as friendly as possible given the circumstances. This courtesy is hardly enough to make me forget about the way a huge company like Colonial Properties treats its tenats like cattle. At the end of the day, thier midset is "fine...leave...we can replace you with another tenat and get a higher amount for rent each month"
A short list of things wrong and why you should not live here (keep in mind I am a 24 year old salesman that works in north Dallas, so some things that don't bother me may bother older people):
The trash compactor is always full
All countertops are stained
Dishwasher leaves soap on dishes
Paint is cheap and easily chips or scuffs
Carpet is easily stained and becomes matted after a couple of months in high traffic areas(but that is the same with any apt nowadays)
The walls and floors are too thin so you can hear everything going on around you, especially if your upstairs neighbors are hard walkers
If you can hear them, that means they can hear you.
Mandated cable payments of 45 bucks,you cannot have your own relationship with Time Warner
Rent will increase every 12 months you live there.
Gate is always broken
Drive up gate code keypanel will destroy you wheels as the turn required to clear the curb is far too great for average car to make (same thing happens whether you are in a pickup or a compact car)
My biggest problem is as follows: the A/C vent in my room would only blow with roughly 25% of the velocity as all the other vents in the apt. As I took it upon myself to investigate this further, I found that the a/c duct running into that particular vent from the air handler just 3 feet away, was pinched down to(you guessed it) 25% of normal size to squeeze over the condensate line inside the indoor a/c unit. Maintenance told me there was nothing they could do. How about dropping the condensate line down about 2 inches. That would cost an exorbatane amount of money...like 3 dollars. There are far better places that are much more cost effective than living in any of the Colonial Trust properties.

In closing, I would like for all of you to take a second hard look at this place prior to leasing here. As i moved out this past weekend, I must have seen 10 to 12 other people moving out as well.

I live at another Colonial Village property nearby. The "CV way" is the same here. The yanked all the dumpsters (telling us that 1-it is to be more 'green' or 2-the city made them do it... which lie are they going to settle on telling us). The cable issue is ridiculous. There are laws being reviewd about this right now, but it will take years to get through the legal system. And if you have a problem with the cable, be ready to feel like a ping-pong ball as you get thrown back and forth between the CV office and Time Warner. Added to that, we've had 4 CV managers within the past year, about to have #5 - good luck to the Euless CV properties, as I believe you are getting my most recent manager... or as I like to think of her, the queen b**** of the universe.
