Only average; aging badly

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
Moved here because I wanted a short commute to work at DFW, and they gave incentives to airport/airline employees. They never allowed me to see the actual apartment I was moving in to because it "wasn't ready", and that's the last time I'll accept that. If it's vacant, I need to see it or I won't sign a lease. Of course the model is in fine shape.
The apartments are over 20 years old and are settling badly. The patios are settling down and away from the buildings. Wood railings on balconies are rotting. Exterior paint peeling badly. Very little covered parking, which costs extra, and it's not convenient to the actual apartments. Hard-wired fire alarm inside my apartment would sound repeatedly for extended periods, especially during storms... it's LOUD and was right outside my bedroom door... forget about trying to sleep through it. They never did even try to fix it. Electric bills were high, and water bills (through their service) were outrageous!.... $35-60 a month for a single person in a tiny apartment!, because you're also paying for sprinklers and filling the pool. Complex is not gated, so MANY non-residents feel free to have large extended-family cookouts and party for hours on end at the pool... and apartment "security" does nothing to ask them to leave.
Some pretty trashy people started to move in to this complex and the nicer one next door. LOUD parties and yelling 7 nights a week, including fighting between residents of both complexes over the dividing fence.
Apartment had monitored alarms when I moved in... when they later said they were dropping that amenity, we were told that we could pick up the monitoring ourselves through the current alarm company or the company of our choice. Instead, they completely ripped out the alarm keypad and covered the hole with a large ugly metal plate, and told us we would have to have new equipment installed by the company of our choice. Ever try to have equipment installed in a leased property' The couple of companies that will even do it charge a fortune!
BOTTOM LINE: You can do WAY better than this dump.
