Let me start by saying that if I could move this apartment somewhere more fun I would keep living here. The problem with this place is really just two-fold. I am not going to throw this place under the bus because they treat you like a king.
First though is the fact that you are located in the middle of what seems to be North Texas' own Grand Central Station. Take a look on gooogle maps' view of the place. The trains are inherently soothing, but the whistle blowing of the trains is ridiculous. They blow the whistle 300 yards before and 300 yards after any street crossing or heavily populated area. Yes, it is enough to wake you.
Next let me say that you are close to nothing. Need something from the store' Wal-mart or Super Target (the latter isnt too bad, but it is further away). Need a quick but healthy bite' Go to Hurst, over 12 miles away.
Okay, so just one more thing. The places are set up like tri-plexes with one story units on either side and a two story unit in the middle. Luckily my middle unit neighbors don't "live" in the upstairs and just work up there, but I can hear the floor creak like none other when they are up there. And I get woken up if they flush their upstairs toilet (which they do plenty) because of some crazy jet engine on the toilet water outlets.
They also do not have recycling, which sucks. All in all though, the location thing should shape up in the next few years. I hear we are also getting a Pei Wei near the Target. The trains will always plague this place. The management is super nice and most maintenance issues are solved the same day. So it's cool, but beware that there is nothing around here and that the trains are a -----. Other than that you should be ok with it if you REALLY don't mind that.
PS. For the money you pay to live close to downtown, you dont get a lot of bars or restaraunts. If you like trashy bars and steakhouses, you'll be happy, but if you like $11/plate places and pubs with some elegance, this won't get you there.
EDIT: 6/26/07 I moved out a couple of months ago because I left my job and moved to a new town. Some improvements have been made: 1.) Whistle blowing of the trains was cut back a lot by city ordinance! Score! 2.) Super Target is next to Pei Wei and Chipotle! Double score! 3.) The management still hasn't changed! Score again! I have lived in all sorts of apartments and these apartments truly rank the top of my list. There is nowhere better to live, and you can even legally walk the 3 blocks DT with a beer in hand.
