May 2008 Update Forthcoming...
********************
09/05/2007 Update
Well, while I had hoped that things were getting better, they have not. The best residents have left (most of them encouraged to do so by the poor staff), the interior of the office has been re-painted, and some very shady characters are moving in and multiplying. For your own safety and the safety of your family, do not move into this complex.
***************************
3/26/06 Update:
It seems that the manager has been replaced, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, the damage may already be done. The resident quality has dropped significantly. It seems that Oakwood has reached the "tipping point." I would not recommend this complex to anyone.
****************************
My wife and I have lived at Oakwood for almost four years now. The complex is older than some in the area, but was well maintained. Although the outside looks more bland, the inside of the apartment is great. The bedrooms and great room are much larger than most. The kitchen and bathrooms are undersized, but to be honest, I would rather have the extra space in the bedrooms. The utility room is an excellent addition.
The best aspects of this complex are the neighbors (there are many that have been at the complex for a long time and are very friendly) and the surrounding neighborhood (my wife and I are actually thinking of buying a home in Ridglea Hills when we decide to buy).
Over the past two years the complex has gone into decline. The office staff is less professional than desireable, poor communication and coordination seem to be the biggest shortcomings. The groundskeeping and maintenence have dropped off considerably. The rents have also increased significantly over the past three years (even though vacancies seem to have increased). While this apartment complex was a great value, the combination of the drop off in service and the increase in cost, I would recommend further research before settling at Oakwood.
Update 02/06/06: New management has taken over in the last few months. There seems to be a drop off in service, even from the declining level of my previous update. At this point I would definitely recommend that people look elsewhere for an apartment.
