It's cheap

I've had my share of problems, namely a long disagreement with management over whether my fridge was actually fixed or not, that was finally resolved by them replacing it after several back-and-forth debates and lots and lots of take-out.
But the way I see it is this: I needed something cheap where I could keep my cat. My loft has stairs and a porch, so the cat is quite content with the living arrangement, but even he knows that this is a temporary situation.
I don't really feel unsafe, but I have a better situation than most. If you live so that your apartment faces a parking lot, so that you have grass and can see the office from your door, you are much safer than those that are cramped in other areas of the complex. I live on the outside and my classmate lives next door, an advantage on many levels.
I believe that the lofts are safer than the regular apartments because of the configuration of apartments. If you rent here, reserve it early in the summer and make them guarantee your location.
The rent is cheap, so it means that there is an interesting array of people. I feel pretty confident that there are some rather undesirable characters nestled among the community. Be aware of your surroundings.
I appreciate the shuttle to school, especially on Tuesdays when the parking lots are packed. It is possible to walk to TCU from the complex, as long as you you aren't trying to carry six books, a laptop, or a both. So if you are in the worst-case scenario, letsay that your car breaks down, you can at least get to school and back.
As far as the surroundings go, the Berkely neighborhood is great, one of the oldest in Fort Worth. The neighborhood around Pascal isn't quite as great, but I don't feel unsafe. TCU bought a ton of land on Berry and is starting to turn that over, this means that the whole area is going to be upgraded in a very short period. Fiesta grocery store and 7-11 are also walking distance, a good point for those without consistent transportation.
Overall, it's a good side of town: its easy to get downtown, the Zoo and Trinity Park are close by, and there are great places to eat.
If you are going to TCU and you need to keep rent down to a minimum, this is a good option. There are three (big) places to live if you are worried about price: Park Ridge which is close and cheap; near the hospital district; and off of Hulen south of the mall. So this is cheap and close.
I don't have high expectations of the complex. You get what you pay for. But as far as I can tell, I don't see the management breaking any laws or codes by providing substandard housing.
I think the experience is very different for women than for men. The guys seem fine with the situation, but the women move to graduate housing or upgrade to different complexes with roomates as quickly as they can. Take that for what its worth.
The office staff is nice, overall, and I guarantee that I will never, ever again in my life be able to write a rent check for $2100 and have it cover SIX months of rent & water.
