My apartment is nice, but the office staff is another story...

I wrote a review titled "So far so good" after my first month, but now I have more experience with the place... My boyfriend and I love our apartment, we have an upgraded one bedroom, but our experience with the office staff has been less than satisfactory. Overall, the apartment is nice, our wooded view is great, and access to a nice little golf course trail is spectacular. However, I've had a zillion problems with my gate code not working ("virus in the system"). I'd say it's a great experience as long as you DON'T have to deal with the staff, or upgrade to a new larger apartment. It's a shame. Aside from paying the rent, we didn't really encounter them until about 8 months of being here. (That whole debacle is written below) We went in last week to talk about upgrading to a two bedroom at the end of our lease and they said we will have to pay a $100 transfer fee. We've spoken to 3 other complexes since then and they all say no transfer fee should be charged when transferring at the END of a lease. They also gave us some really high prices and didn't seem the least bit interested in trying to keep us here. In the past, apartment staff has always tried to make some kind of deal to keep me there another year. We'll definitely be looking elsewhere because it seems we'll get more for our money, and the staff has seemed so nice where we looked so far. Also, while we were complaining about the staff to the staff of another complex, another guy was getting his keys in the next office and HE TOO was complaining about the staff here!

One night, my boyfriend and his friends walked down the street to 7 eleven to get sodas and snacks, and were stopped by the courtesy officer. He asked my boyfriend which apartment he lives in and when he replied, "20**" the officer answered, "You're lying, there is no 20**." After an exchange of words, the officer says it's okay and he was just testing him. At that time, mind you it's about 2AM, a truck pulls up and and a lady hops out and wants to know what's going on. She claims she is the manager, and she's obviously drunk. Her brother jumps out and gets in our friend's face and asks "Is there a problem here'!" So again, my boyfriend says he lives in 20** and the so-called manager exclaims, "There is no 20**!" and makes him go into the office and point it out on a map. All the while she's being rude and making it seem as though he's done something wrong. She even goes to check our lease to see that he's on it. Well, back when we moved in, our leasing agent combined our incomes and allowed us both to move in under my name, because my boyfriend had a misdemeanor from 4 years ago (most apartments only check for felonies AND he's otherwise clean with a great career and everything). So he, of course wasn't on the lease and the lady tells him she's going to evict us and he better be in her office on Monday and blah blah. The next day we call the office and speak to our original leasing agent, and tell her about some lady handling business while drunk, and accusing us of doing something wrong, when we only did what we were told was okay. Of course, no one seemed to care about the assistant manager handling business while drunk. Eventually, after many calls back and forth, the situation was handled, but at first they wanted my boyfriend to pay them another $50 to run a new background check. The leasing agent knowingly allowed him to move in, sold him a gate clicker, and gave him a set of keys. If anyone was wrong, it was her and SHE should have been in trouble. Instead they made us feel like WE had been dishonest.
