TAA,

I would like to file a formal complaint about my apartment complex, The Vintage at Legacy. I moved into the complex last July, 2005, and have had nothing but problems. The latest, I have been denied access to my apartment and garage. The remote to the apartment gate (and my garage) broke on Tuesday June 20th. I left a message that I needed it fixed or replaced. The gate code that was given to me when I moved in is no longer working. I had no response. On June 23rd, when I came home, I couldn??t get in, and no other residents were around. My only option was to park my car outside the complex, unsecured, and hop the fence to get home. On Saturday June 24th, I went to the office to solve this problem in person. This was the soonest I could do this because my wife and I work from 8-5 during the week, and the office is not open before work or when we get home. I was told that getting my remote fixed or replaced is a maintenance person??s job; they don??t work weekends unless it??s an emergency. This is not an emergency. I was told to come back during the week. I explained the hours, they didn??t care. I asked how I was supposed to get into the complex. I was told, ??Wait for a resident to come home and follow them in, there is no gate code anymore??. I pay extra for a garage that only works with the remote; I explained that to them as well, they didn??t care. I asked to leave the remote, and have them put a new or fixed remote in my apartment for me, they refused. My wife went home for lunch today, June 28th, to get the remote fixed. At this point, we have been sharing a remote for nine days. Now, maintenance is at lunch. My wife was told they can??t fix it now either. Again, they refused to take the remote, fix it, and leave it in the apartment. They told my wife to come back when maintenance is on site.

What are my options to get this resolved immediately'
I would appreciate being contacted as soon as possible.

AptRatings:

There are NOT enough spots to park all the cars for the residents, let alone any guests.

The walls are thin enough to hear your neighbors talk, not even yell.

Maintenance, see above. My dishwasher STILL doesn't work properly, after four requests and two visits from maintenance.

No onsite police or security officer.

The staff; RUDE and VERY UNhelpful!

Hello Mightyjoe,

Welcome to the fabulous Vintage at Legacy,....... just kidding. I feel your frustration. We have been living here much longer than you and thank God our lease is up soon. You are correct, the maintenance staff and management is totally incompetent. We have seen 6, yes six, management teams come and go.

This site is for reviews only. The TAA does not view this site. You need to call the Dallas Tenants Rights Association at 214-828-4244 ext. 101 (Sheila) ext. 106 (Mary). It is difficult to get to talk to a live human as they are very busy. If you leave a message, they will call you back in a day or two. They also offer free workshops where you can talk to an attorney to discuss your rights. These workshops are very helpful and are held on Wednesdays at 5:30pm and Saturdays at 9:30am. The workshop is located in East Dallas next to Baylor Hospital on Junius Street. I hope this is helpful.

Hello. I am not sure what the laws are in Texas, but in Oklahoma I am pretty sure that if you put your complaint in writing and submit it to your apt. management, they must fix the problem within 14 days or you can take it upon yourself to fix it and bill them for the charges. OR I also believe that if they do not fix a formal, written request within 14 days you can move out of the unit with no repurcussions. You might want to look into it.
