I'd been on the island for 2 yrs, in 2 different apartments, and was miserable. I didn't think anything could be worse than dorms, but I hated the "family atmosphere" that most apartments have, screaming kids, slamming doors, loud music, etc. I also hated being treated like I was a pain in the ass when I requested maintenance. The Chateau Lafitte apartments came highly recommended by some fellow UTMB students, so I figured, how much worse can it get, besides they swore it was quiet and that the manager was great. Well, I have to say that they were right and so much more. I'm not saying it's perfect, stuff happens, it happens everywhere, but having it taken care of quickly, and dare I say cheerfully, is exactly what I want from my landlrd. I've had stopped up drains, broken garbage eaters, and even a/c problems in the middle of summer, take over 3 weeks at other apartments (1 actually said they had 30days, legally, to respond, so I should be grateful for anything less), but when they happened here they're all fixed same day. In fact, I don't think that anything I've requested has taken more than 24 hrs. They even change my burnt out light bulbs for me. And quiet, soooo quiet. I don't think there are any kids living here, at least I've never seen any, or more importantly heard them. I saw comments re: roaches, but same friends said they had no problems, so it was worth a chance. I've not any problems at all, for over 2 yrs, so think it may be more of a personal housekeeping issue. There are some people who can get roaches anywhere. Anyway, really glad someone told me about Chateau Lafitte, so thought I'd pass it on.
