You are a Texas freaking retard if buy a 700 sqaure foot apartment, excuse me, condo, in this place for $200,000 dollars. Here's a news flash. It cost $17 Million to build (not including property) and was sold for $43 million. Guess what' That overpriced, overinflated nonsense crap they are trying to sell with cheap appliances, AC's, and shoddy floor construction gets passed to you as profit. AND, they are installing tile in all the condos as they empty. I hope your neighbor upstairs doesn't walk with their shoes on or there are kids upstairs because if you even walk on tile barefoot it sounds like stomping overhead. Enjoy! It is not behind the sea wall so check with your insurance company. That's how they built it for so cheap, it is JUST past the sea wall AND in a flood zone. Again, check for yourself. Stuff also, because it was built cheap, constantly breaks: the gates, eleveators, magnetic doors etc. all of which you will get to pay for in your dues each month. You will probably end up paying $1,500 per month plus dues and through the roof insurance premiums for an $800 per month apartment. Texans must be morons. There isn't even a damn thing to do here or see.

Well, not really actually. I was one of the people who posted one of the comments regarding the price. My wife is a physician at UTMB and we used our apartment here to prevent having to drive to our house in Houston on the weekends. I must say that I really get irritated with people that try to act like something they are not. MOST people at the Club of the Isle who will be purchasing condos CAN NOT afford a house on the island. I assume you are one of them so perhaps you should get a real job. Which, I might note, it not very likely in Galveston. Unless you are a teacher (half your salary would go to the payment on the condo) or work at UTMB (again most people would spend half their checks on the condo) you are pretty much out of luck. Secondly, there is NOTHING to do or see on the island, unless you want to take your family to see UTMB or the Port of Galveston. I would assume you are one of the sales agents making all these bitter and arrogant accusations and I understand your frustration considering the terrible timing of turning a 260 apartment apartment complex into condos in a housing slump. There are also many issues that many buyers will not be aware of. For example, if investors snap up these condos (30-60% of condo conversion condos, depending on region/location, are bought by investors hoping to flip them for a profit. This causes problems for individuals who actually want to live there as permanent residents. Why? Mortage lenders will be very warry of financing a condo with more than % of people in the complex renting. This is because banks know that renters take less care of premises. Secondly, you never know who will move next door to you. People from hell or a doctor. Its a crap shoot. Do you want to pay $250,000 for a condo to take a crap shoot? I don't. I'll pay the extra $50,000 and buy a house, thanks. Also, what if you want to sell your condo? What makes yours any different than the other 260? Nothing. Good luck selling it and you will see that unless they face the ocean, most condos on the island are being rented out because they aren't/can't be sold for what they paid for them. There are too many condos on the island for people to buy less than new. I don't know, considering this is the first time this company has converted in Texas, I wonder if they have a clue as to what they are doing. And before you decide to bash people that don't have as much money as you, like my wife and I didn't when going to school, just consider that you are buying a condo and that you can't afford a house.

You sound like me. I am an IT tech at UTMB and I could afford to buy a condo at the Club but I am not stupid. I heard the same thing about the actual building being built for $14 mil. I figure that a one bedroom (not including property - you would have to divide 260 by the property value to figure that out but I doubt it was more than a $2 mil - if that) cost less than $50,000 to build. That is about right considering all you really own are some granite counter tops, dry wall, carpeting, and a couple of sinks and windows. My point is this - how the hell are these worth $250,000.00? I mean, common, I could buy a nice house in Texas City right up the road for that with property, a garage, no people living on me, and be able to do what I want with my yard and exterior. NO THANKS CLUB!!!!! But good luck. And as far as office staff is concerned, I think that Christy girl has her nose stuck up so high that she could poke the man in the moon in butt. News flash: Get a degree, get a real job and stop pretending like you are something. =) Yes, they suck in the office.

Let me get this straight. If you lived there for 14 months, and everything breaks, why do you want to move back there once everything "Settles Down?" You are contradicting yourself! Try and remember your comments posted on other reposonses! Idiot!

Lived there (as apt.) from 2005-2006. The original office crew would almost bend over backwards to make your experience a great one. Met the new owners/employees before leaving. What a bunch of snotheads. I am not in the habit of spending $265,000 for a 700 sq. ft. "CONDO"...??? aT LEAST CANNONJB123 COULD FIND THE BREAKER BOX. Since new owners decided to close office on week-ends with NO Maintenance; Reliant Energy came out and together we searched for the box. Found it, otherwise the new owners would have gladly let me reside it a "hotbox" for entire week-end...Oh yeah, I'm 74, high blood pressure and it was on a humid, sticky, steaming August week-end. Anyway, so glad you're rolling in green and can accessorize with your green moldy brain---apparently been a God Send to you. Why don't you re-post in 2008 and let us "poor, ignorant, BOIs, who don't know anything about your fantasy island tell us what we're missing. FYI, I bought a Victorian in the silk stocking district for a few more pennies...I must have been out of my old, demented daft mind!

I wouldn't buy anything in Galveston. The insurance rates are ridiculous and they will probably not pay off if you have a claim. The property taxes are way too high and you get lousy city services, if any. There is a lot of crime and graffiti. The mayor and city council are a bad joke. The developers run the island. Schools are a disgrace. Many, many depressed welfare housing projects and no jobs for people to get out of them. We were seduced by the ocean and found out later that the beaches often stink from the decaying seaweed that washes up. Took a loss of 2/3rds of what we were worth just to get out of there and it was worth every penny.
